Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alan Charuto! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mario Sortello! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Charuto has a takedown stuffed. Sortello lands with a thumping leg kick.
Charuto tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sortello sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Charuto somewhat. Charuto catches Sortello with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Sortello throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sortello throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sortello throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
It looks like Alan Charuto has been cut. No joy there for Sortello, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sortello lands a head kick that stumbles Charuto and the fighters go to the mat.
Charuto is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Charuto controls Sortello momentarily but Sortello frees himself. Sortello tries to stand but Charuto is controlling from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Charuto looking to control.
Charuto has a closed guard, preventing Sortello from standing up. Sortello wants to stand and escape but instead Charuto has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Charuto is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Sortello is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Sortello on the wrong end of a nice jab. Charuto scores a takedown into full mount! Sortello has left one of his arms exposed and Charuto doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Sortello screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
