PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Eibner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee comes to the cage accompanied by Wu-Tang Clan - Bring Da Ruckus. Brett Eibner is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steven Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brett Eibner!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee defending well as Eibner loads up on a big left hand.
Lee bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Eibner stuffs the takedown.
Lee wants to slow Eibner down by chopping away at his legs.
Eibner tries to clinch but Lee is having none of it.
Eibner swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Lee shoots in but Eibner avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Eibner misses with a jab, cross combination.
Eibner connects with a looping right hand.
Eibner tries to close the distance and clinch but Lee swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Eibner misses the jab.
Eibner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lee.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee moves out of range as Eibner strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eibner doesn't manage to clinch there - Lee circles away.
Eibner throws a hook to the side of Lee's head but Lee sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Eibner tries to bum rush Lee with a series of wild strikes but Lee uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Lee tries to keep at a distance but Eibner has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lee misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch on the inside from Lee fails to land.

Eibner's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Eibner stuffs the takedown.
Lee misses with a low kick.
Eibner has his takedown stuffed
and Lee counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lee will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Lee throws a low kick, looking for Eibner's leg but Eibner calmly moves out of range.
Eibner misses with an uppercut.
A slow jab from Eibner misses its intended target.
Nice defenses there by Lee.
Lee lands a glancing blow to the side of Eibner's head.
Eibner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lee tries to avoid it but Eibner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lee to the ground. Lee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Eibner looks gassed!
Eibner moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Eibner throws a lazy right hand but Lee sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Lee looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Lee tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Eibner swivels and escapes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lee darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lee not doing much here.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Eibner is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Nice strikes from Lee there.
Lee throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Eibner is defending against the submission attempts here by Lee.
Eibner is looking to improve his position.
Lee has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lee thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Eibner's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Eibner is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Lee closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lee lands in his opponent's guard.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Eibner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Eibner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lee is one step ahead there.
Lee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Eibner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Steven Lee will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Eibner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Lee misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Eibner.
Lee is trying to break free.

Eibner breaks from the clinch.
Eibner gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Lee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Eibner moves out of range as Lee strikes.
Lee throws a front kick aimed at Eibner's knee but Eibner avoids it well.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lee.
A big left from Eibner misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee keeps the fight on the outside.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Lee lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Eibner has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Eibner and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Eibner moves forwards but Lee connects with a nice, crisp jab.

and Eibner takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Lee avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Brett Eibner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eibner lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lee staying out of range there.

Lee looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Lee is keen to just control but Eibner is a slippery customer.
Lee not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Eibner manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee is working Eibner over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Eibner.
Lee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lee throws a good cross that connects.
Lee lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Eibner is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.
A telegraphed right hand from Eibner misses the target.
Eibner might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

and Lee counters with a one-two to the body.

and Lee counters with a straight right hand.

and Lee counters with a left and a right that stings Eibner.
Lee fails with the takedown
and Eibner counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eibner throws a hook but Lee avoids it easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Steven Lee will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Eibner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Lee is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Eibner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Eibner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lee wants to control the pace but Eibner is squirming around nicely.
Eibner is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Lee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Eibner is looking to escape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Lee is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Lee tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Steven Lee just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Lee closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Eibner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Lee in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Lee is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Eibner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Steven Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Eibner keeps working.
Steven Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Eibner managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lee.
Eibner takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Eibner manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Eibner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Lee lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Steven Lee showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lee, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
