Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Santiago Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ravid Ware! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ware takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Santiago Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ware scores with a takedown into Sanchez's guard. Ware trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanchez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ware defends well. Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Ware from controlling successfully. Sanchez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ware controls the pace. Ware stopping the sweep attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ware is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanchez is on top in guard.
Ware is trying to keep Sanchez in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ware has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sanchez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ware. Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ware keeps working. Sanchez tries for a kimura but Ware is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Sanchez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ware stops Sanchez from passing to mount. Sanchez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Ware is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Sanchez yanks on the arm and Ware is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Sanchez.
