Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alabaster Jones! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Benjamin Smith! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Jones passes to side control. Jones is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Jones working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Jones tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Smith tries to improve position but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom. Smith tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position. Smith is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it. Smith manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jones's best efforts. Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily. Jones is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jones dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Jones's head and hops out. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alabaster Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Smith throws a solid leg kick but Jones takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Smith.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Smith connects with a body shot. Jones fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jones scores with a takedown into Smith's guard. Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Smith looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jones wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jones is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith looking for submissions off his back. Jones is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work. Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt. Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Smith. Smith dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jones. That did some damage! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. Smith lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Smith.

He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Jones wants to control the pace but Smith is squirming around nicely. Jones looking to secure an arm triangle but Smith defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control. Jones jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smith is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smith and Jones has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Smith gets back to half guard. Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily. Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jones in particular looking to stall. Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jones is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Smith Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jones's back instead. Jones turns into Smith and is now in his guard.

A close second round but Benjamin Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
