Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Kevin Tate has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Newton!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Newton drops his hands momentarily and Tate takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Newton needs to keep his hands up - Tate had a free shot at his head there.
Tate tests Newton's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Newton swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tate bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Newton takes a swing at Tate's ribcage but misses.
Newton misses with the combination.
Newton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Newton has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tate missing with knees to the body.

Newton wants the takedown. Tate is fighting it off but Newton persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Tate's guard against the cage.

Tate has an active guard here but Newton has managed to pass into half guard.

Newton is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Newton looks to land a strike but Tate avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Newton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Newton.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Newton wants to pass to mount but Tate is defending the position.
Newton passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tate!

Tate is trying to escape the mount.

Newton stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Newton fails with the takedown.

Newton fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tate manages to avoid it.
Tate lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Newton backs up against the cage.
Tate lands with a nice body kick.
Newton throws a combination that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Newton takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Tate lands a high kick!


It looks like Eric Newton has been cut.
Left hook, right uppercut from Tate.
A nice leg kick lands there from Tate.
Tate fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Newton on the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Newton takes one on the button.
Tate ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Tate dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tate connects with the punch.
Tate misses with a combination
and Newton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tate slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Newton takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Newton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tate circles away quickly and effectively.

Tate stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Tate pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Newton shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tate napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Tate is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Newton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Newton prevents Tate from improving his position.
Newton wants to stand but Tate has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Newton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Newton thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Newton wants to free his trapped foot but Tate is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newton is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Tate reverses the position - he's now on top in Newton's guard.
Tate wants to control from the top but Newton keeps moving.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Newton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Newton has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Tate clobbers Newton with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Tate counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Tate fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Newton.

Tate throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Newton stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Tate scores with a one two! Newton had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Newton tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tate's elbow.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tate, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
