PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between hydro mint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Koning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). mint's entrance music is Fed Up. A fine choice. Koning has chosen Sierra Leone By Mt Eden as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, hydro mint!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ian Koning!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koning wants to clinch up but mint keeps it at a distance.

Koning gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

mint drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and mint jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
mint lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

mint decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Koning, up you get!
Koning doesn't manage to clinch there - mint circles away.
Koning is looking to clinch.
Koning misses with a takedown

and mint counters with a nice double leg into side control. Koning won't be happy with that.

mint stands up and beckons Koning to his feet.

mint really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
mint is breathing heavily.
Koning is looking to escape.

mint is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Koning doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time mint.
Koning pushes mint off looking to stand but mint dives back in and keeps control.

Koning keeping moving, preventing mint from controlling successfully.

mint preventing the sweep.
mint trying to control the position from guard on top but Koning is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

mint stops Koning from getting back to his feet.
mint will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
mint wants to lay and pray for a moment but Koning keeps working.
mint is looking to pass Koning's guard but actually Koning recovers to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick by Koning misses

and mint counters with a single leg into guard. Koning didn't expect that.
mint is looking to work some ground and pound but Koning has wrist control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
mint throws a strike but Koning rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Koning stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Koning tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so mint counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Koning looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Koning is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
mint stops Koning from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Koning pushes mint off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Koning tries to close the distance and clinch but mint swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Koning tries to clinch but mint moves out of range.
mint fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Koning doesn't manage to clinch there - mint circles away.
Koning throws a sloppy head kick and mint moves out of range easily.
mint keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and mint counters with a nice double leg into side control. Koning won't be happy with that.
Koning takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Koning can't do much from the bottom here.
Koning is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but mint has just dragged him back down to the mat.

mint thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
An elbow from mint crashes against the mat.
Koning is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Koning wants to control but mint is keeping busy and won't allow it.

mint looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Koning is trying to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

hydro mint dominated that second round.
That's time! mint's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Koning is defending against the submission attempts here by mint.
hydro mint overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Koning keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Koning is trying to stand.
mint wants to lay and pray for a moment but Koning keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
mint is thwarting Koning's attempts to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
mint keeps the fight on the outside.
Koning tries to close the distance and clinch but mint swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
hydro mint is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and mint counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
mint working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

mint drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Koning manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now mint has Koning in his guard.

Koning won't allow mint to sweep him here.
mint is working hard here to advance position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Koning works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Koning tries to stand but can't do so whilst mint controls his leg.
hydro mint is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
mint trying to hold on to Koning's head to control him but Koning postures up.

hydro mint showed his dominance in that final round.
Well mint has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
