PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Higa Gleesen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksander Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Soviet March. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Higa Gleesen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emelianenko fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gleesen, pushing him back against the cage.

Emelianenko has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gleesen clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Emelianenko lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Gleesen hold on?!
Emelianenko is riding his opponent, not letting Gleesen buck him off.
Let's hope that Emelianenko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Emelianenko has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Gleesen has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Emelianenko controlling the positon.
Gleesen covering up well and avoiding damage.

Emelianenko is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Gleesen defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Emelianenko throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Emelianenko keeps control of the position easily here as Gleesen tries to buck him off.
Gleesen wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Emelianenko takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Emelianenko dodges the punch combination from Gleesen.

Gleesen closes the distance and clinches.
Gleesen is trying to break the clinch but Emelianenko has him pressed against the cage.

Gleesen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gleesen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Emelianenko drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gleesen wants to stand up but Emelianenko is controlling him.
Emelianenko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gleesen wants to get back to his feet but Emelianenko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Gleesen keeps moving.

Gleesen is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Gleesen throws a punch but it's blocked by Emelianenko.
Emelianenko fails to pull guard.

Emelianenko pulls Gleesen into guard.
Gleesen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Emelianenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gleesen wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling his posture from full guard.
Emelianenko doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gleesen trying to stand up but can't free himself from Emelianenko's guard.

Emelianenko has his foot on Gleesen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gleesen works his way back into a safe position though.

Gleesen wants to get up but he can't break Emelianenko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gleesen takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Emelianenko fails in his attempt to clinch.
Emelianenko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gleesen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Emelianenko sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gleesen throws a right hand that Emelianenko ducks under and follows up with a left that Emelianenko also avoids with ease.

Emelianenko is taking a breather. Gleesen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Gleesen is trying to stand up here but Emelianenko is controlling him well.
Gleesen wants to stand back up but Emelianenko manages to pass into side control.
Gleesen is trying to get back to his feet.

Gleesen is pushing Emelianenko's head away, looking to escape. Emelianenko manages to hold on to the position though.

Gleesen tries to bum rush Emelianenko with a series of wild strikes but Emelianenko uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Emelianenko shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gleesen's guard.

Emelianenko's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Emelianenko prevents Gleesen from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Emelianenko perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Emelianenko stops Gleesen from getting back to his feet.
Emelianenko takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Emelianenko is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gleesen wants to get back to his feet.

Emelianenko gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Emelianenko tries to clinch there but Gleesen circles away.
Emelianenko will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Emelianenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gleesen's waist but Gleesen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Emelianenko off to one side.
Gleesen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Emelianenko.
Emelianenko closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

so Emelianenko counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Gleesen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emelianenko is controlling him.
Emelianenko is looking to advance position but Gleesen has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Emelianenko wants to control but Gleesen is having none of it.

Gleesen stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Gleesen misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gleesen closes the distance and pushes Emelianenko back into the cage.
Gleesen tries to circle away but Emelianenko has him pinned against the cage.
Emelianenko goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gleesen prevents it.
Emelianenko tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gleesen just stands there and leans against the cage.
Higa Gleesen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksander Emelianenko.
Gleesen tries a knee to the head but Emelianenko blocks it.
Gleesen is looking to break free of the clinch but Emelianenko has double underhooks.
Gleesen is trying to force a seperation but Emelianenko has the dominant position.
Gleesen wants to break the clinch but can't.
Gleesen connects with a nasty looking knee right to Emelianenko's face.
Gleesen throws a head punch that misses.
Emelianenko has Gleesen pressed against the cage, preventing Gleesen from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Gleesen wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Emelianenko has him pressed against the cage.
Gleesen has had enough of the clinch but Emelianenko keeps him there for the moment.
Gleesen stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Emelianenko tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gleesen smiles and moves away.
Gleesen misses with a few strikes there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aleksander Emelianenko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Emelianenko winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
