PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Colin Buker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Manhoef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manhoef has chosen Requiem for a dream By Clint Mansell as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Colin Buker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Melvin Manhoef!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Manhoef!
Manhoef is squirming around, avoiding Buker's attempts to control the action.
Buker landing strikes from the mount and Manhoef is in trouble!
Buker could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Buker thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Buker is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Manhoef has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Manhoef tries to lock up and control but Buker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Manhoef avoids a series of strikes thrown by Buker.
Buker content just to control the position here.
Manhoef is trying desperately to improve position.
Buker throws some wild stikes that Manhoef manages to avoid easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buker controlling the position easily from mount.
Buker looking to ground and pound but Manhoef is blocking nicely.

Buker postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Manhoef looks a forlorn figure.
Manhoef takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Buker content just to control the position here.
Manhoef avoids a series of strikes thrown by Buker.

Manhoef wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Manhoef tries to hold on but Buker pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buker can't control as he wanted to and Manhoef manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Buker content to control rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Manhoef is looking to clinch but Buker is avoiding it.
Manhoef throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Buker misses with a head kick.

Buker has closed the distance and engaged Manhoef in a clinch.
Manhoef scores a nice knee to the body.
Manhoef trying to control the position but instead, Buker has worked for underhooks and has pushed Manhoef into the cage.
Buker jumps guard but Manhoef stands there with Buker around his waist. Buker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Buker changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Manhoef fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Buker darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Buker is looking for a kimura but Manhoef is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Buker to get the leverage.

Manhoef wants to get back to his feet.
Buker controlling the action here.
Buker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Manhoef does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Manhoef is trying to stand back up but Buker is controlling him
Buker is keen to just control but Manhoef is a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Manhoef wants to clinch but Buker slips to the side
and Buker counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Manhoef has control of Buker's left arm, preventing Buker from doing any damage.
Manhoef wants to stand and escape but Buker is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Buker stays in close to Manhoef's body and controls the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Manhoef holds on and takes a little breather.
Buker wants to stand but Manhoef is controlling his posture from full guard.
Manhoef is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Colin Buker's cut.
That's time! Buker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Manhoef throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Buker blocks a head kick by Manhoef.
Manhoef doesn't manage to clinch there - Buker circles away.
Manhoef throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Manhoef wants to clinch up but Buker keeps it at a distance.

and Buker counters with a three punch combo that has Manhoef backing up. Manhoef nods at Buker to acknowledge the strikes.
Buker works Manhoef's body with a nice hook.
Manhoef closes the distance but Buker moves to the side

and Buker counters by clinching up.
Manhoef lands a nice uppercut.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Buker is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Manhoef looking to stall.

Buker drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Manhoef looking to throw knees to the head but Buker is blocking nicely.

Manhoef is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Buker gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Manhoef is trying to stall.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Manhoef obliges.

Buker manages to break the clinch.
Manhoef keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Buker counters with a shoot takedown. Manhoef fights it but they end up in guard.

Buker would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Manhoef is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Manhoef lands an elbow inside.
Manhoef throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Manhoef is trying to maintain a safe position but Buker gets an underhook and turns Manhoef into the cage.
Buker is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Buker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A thudding body kick lands there by Manhoef!
Manhoef plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Manhoef is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Buker has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Colin Buker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Manhoef shoots in for a takedown but Buker shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Buker stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Colin Buker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Buker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Manhoef napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Buker decides to stand back up. Buker steps back and let's Manhoef get back to his feet.
Manhoef shoots in but Buker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Manhoef throws the kick towards the body but Buker avoids it.
Manhoef tries a head kick but it misses.

Buker has Manhoef up against the cage in a clinch.
Manhoef utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Colin Buker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Buker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
