PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug McSwain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McSwain has chosen Jack Thammarat - My Headache Song as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Norris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doug McSwain!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McSwain looks to land a left hand but Norris moved out of range nicely.

McSwain moves into the clinch.
Norris blocking some punches.
Norris fails to pull guard.
Norris scores with a nice hook to the head.
McSwain throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
McSwain lands a hook that snaps the head of Norris backwards.
McSwain has Norris pressed against the cage, preventing Norris from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
McSwain tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
McSwain lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Norris or not.
A frustrated look appears on Norris's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Norris wants a takedown.
McSwain working some nice short punches in the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by McSwain.

Norris breaks from the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - McSwain looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Norris slips a jab from McSwain.
Norris keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McSwain.
Norris swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Norris avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Norris rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McSwain moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
McSwain throws the left hand but Norris avoids the punch easily.
Norris misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Norris lands a slapping body shot.
McSwain misses with a hook to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

McSwain shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Norris manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
McSwain trying to control the position from guard on top but Norris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Norris looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Norris throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
McSwain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McSwain with a flurry of punches that miss.
McSwain trying to control but Norris is working from the bottom.
Norris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Norris manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

McSwain tries to lock up and control but Norris gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McSwain tries to get back to half guard but can't.
McSwain tries to hold on but Norris pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Norris lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Norris scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish McSwain?
McSwain slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
McSwain is trying to get back to full guard.
McSwain holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Norris thows a huge punch but McSwain dodges it nicely.

Norris wants to work for an arm triangle but McSwain is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Norris is looking to take a break and control but McSwain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McSwain is trying to control but Norris passes into side control!
McSwain gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Norris is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Norris trying to control the action but McSwain is working from the bottom.
McSwain wants to control but Norris is keeping busy.
McSwain might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Norris kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Norris is keen to just control but McSwain is a slippery customer.
McSwain avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Norris.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Norris throws a quick inside leg kick.
Norris ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Norris moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Doug McSwain has been cut.
Doug McSwain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McSwain thows a left - swing and a miss!
Norris throws a head kick but McSwain moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McSwain connects with a single shot there.
Norris lands a jab to McSwain's midsection.
McSwain looks gassed!
Norris dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on McSwain. That did some damage!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Norris dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Norris lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

McSwain won't allow Norris to pass to mount.
Norris is figuring out what he wants to do next.
McSwain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Norris thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Norris looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McSwain throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Norris.
McSwain is breathing heavily.

Norris drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

and Norris counters with a thumping low kick.
McSwain tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Norris paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Doug McSwain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Norris shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Norris stands and throws McSwain's legs to the side, diving into side control.

McSwain tries to improve position but can't.
Norris is looking to take a break and control but McSwain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Norris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McSwain is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

and Norris counters with a flying knee. Nice.

McSwain throws an overhand right that lands on Norris's shoulder, as Norris tries to avoid the shot.
McSwain throws a looping overhand right but Norris ducks down to avoid it.
Norris swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Norris lands a glancing blow to the side of McSwain's head.
McSwain moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McSwain takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Norris misses the shot to the body.
Norris throws a head kick but McSwain moves out of range.
McSwain swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Norris counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps McSwain thinking.
Norris connects with a vicious head kick that knocks McSwain to the floor! Norris dives in looking for the finish!
McSwain has hold of Norris's hands but Norris slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The fighters are battling for position here. McSwain manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Norris takes a decent strike to the side of the head.
McSwain controls Norris momentarily but Norris frees himself.

Norris passes McSwain's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
McSwain tries to get to full guard but Norris has control of the leg.
Norris with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Norris prevents McSwain from standing back up.

Norris is working for a submission of some sort.

McSwain is defending against the submission attempts here by Norris.
Mike Norris is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

McSwain tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
McSwain wants to get back to full guard but Norris has mounted him!

Norris wants to control the pace but McSwain is squirming around nicely.

Mike Norris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McSwain is bucking up trying to escape but Norris cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Norris tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
McSwain wants to hold on but Norris pushes him away.
McSwain working to try and regain half guard.
McSwain throwing hammer fists to the chest of Norris. What's that going to do exactly?
Doug McSwain has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Norris, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
