Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heikki Kanttori! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leroy Jenkins! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kanttori takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Kanttori misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Jenkins gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Jenkins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Kanttori lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Jenkins lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
It looks like Heikki Kanttori has been cut. Jenkins lands an elbow inside that Kanttori shrugs off. Kanttori is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jenkins gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Jenkins lands a nice elbow. Kanttori letting Jenkins take a breather here. The crowd are getting on Jenkins's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch. Jenkins lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Heikki Kanttori's cut is getting worse. Jenkins lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Kanttori lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Kanttori has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kanttori goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Jenkins is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kanttori manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jenkins manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jenkins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kanttori defends well. Jenkins manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Jenkins throws a nice inside leg kick. Kanttori is breathing heavily. Jenkins clinches up against the cage. Jenkins with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Jenkins lands an elbow that stopped Kanttori in his tracks for a moment.
Heikki Kanttori's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Jenkins with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Jenkins lands an elbow inside. Kanttori goes for a takedown attempt but Jenkins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heikki Kanttori. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kanttori closes the distance and clinches up with Jenkins, looking for a takedown. Kanttori pushes Jenkins against the cage but Jenkins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jenkins lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kanttori backs up against the cage.
Kanttori is rocked!
Jeez, Heikki Kanttori's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. This has been an exciting period of action! Jenkins takes the fight into the clinch. Oh Kanttori is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Jenkins jerks Kanttori's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Kanttori drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Jenkins goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Jenkins because Kanttori was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Leroy Jenkins!
