Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Tate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Diego Martinez! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tate swivels and escapes. Tate missing with a left hand there. Martinez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Martinez has a takedown stuffed. Nice defenses there by Martinez. Martinez fails with a takedown attempt. Jon Tate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Martinez. Martinez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Martinez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Tate has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Tate!

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Martinez working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Tate has passed into half guard!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Tate pulls his head out easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Tate is just content to waste time from the top position. Martinez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Martinez is trying to keep Tate in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jon Tate will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Tate digs a good body shot into Martinez's ribs. Martinez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Martinez shoots in for a takedown but Tate shows good takedown defense. Martinez shoots in but Tate avoids the takedown attempt easily. Jon Tate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Martinez. Tate jabs at Martinez's body. Martinez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tate avoids it really well and circles away. Tate moves into range and clinches up with Martinez.

Tate cracks Martinez with a nice body shot. Tate manages to break the clinch.
Martinez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Martinez swinging wilding here.
Nice takedown defense from Tate. No joy for Martinez on that attempt. Tate throws a right and a left that both miss. Tate stuffs the takedown attempt from Martinez. Martinez gets slowly back to his feet. Jon Tate is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Martinez is defended easily by Tate. Martinez avoids the body shot from Tate.
Martinez shoots in but Tate avoids the takedown attempt easily. Diego Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martinez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Martinez fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice defenses there by Martinez. Tate misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Martinez.
Tate throws an overhand right that lands on Martinez's shoulder, as Martinez tries to avoid the shot. Martinez moves out of range as Tate strikes. Martinez defending well as Tate loads up on a big left hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Tate has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tate breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Martinez fails to land the takedown. Tate swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tate looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Martinez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tate's waist but Tate gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Martinez off to one side. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tate keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jon Tate dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Martinez looks for a takedown but Tate sprawls well. Martinez takes one to the side of the head.
A left and a right from Tate both land. Nice combination. Tate throws a hook but Martinez avoids it easily. Tate tries to clinch up but Martinez circles away and keeps his distance. Martinez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Tate misses with a looping right.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez shoots in but Tate avoids the takedown attempt easily. Tate tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Tate moves into the clinch successfully.
Tate pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Martinez keeps the fight on the outside. Martinez shoots in for a takedown but Tate shows good takedown defense. Jon Tate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Martinez. Martinez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Tate connects with a looping right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martinez takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Tate misses with a double jab
and Martinez counters with a shoot takedown. Tate fights it but they end up in guard. Martinez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tate is keeping the position for now. Tate on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tate tries to get out of the position. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tate holds on and takes a little breather.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tate looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tate looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tate!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Martinez is trying to improve his position.
And that's the end of the fight! Jon Tate showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tate, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
