PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, James Miller!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Lou da Vinci and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Foster throws the kick towards the body but Miller avoids it.
Foster displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miller.

Miller shoots in and bounces Foster off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Foster swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Foster trying to control the position.
Miller not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Foster escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Miller gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Foster working for a triangle but Miller defends it easily.
Miller wants to stand but Foster is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller drops back looking for a leg! Foster is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Foster manages to kick Miller off! Miller jumps back into Foster's guard.
Miller wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Foster tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Miller got a little sloppy there for a moment and Foster has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Miller has managed to get both his arms back between Foster's legs - danger averted.
Foster looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Miller postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Foster works over Miller's head and body with a nice combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Foster.
Miller is not content to let Foster control the position.
Foster is breathing heavily.
Foster throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Foster trying to control the position but Miller is working away.

Foster working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Foster wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Miller is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Miller wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Foster fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Foster dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Miller misses with a few strikes there.
Miller tries to clinch there but Foster circles away.
Foster wants to clinch.

Foster scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Foster is trying to control the action in half guard but Miller is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Miller is looking to escape.
Foster is trying to control. Miller wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Foster is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Miller defends it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Foster seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Miller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miller desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Foster looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Miller tries to clinch but Foster is having none of it.
Foster throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Miller swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Foster lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Miller circles away quickly and effectively.
Miller wants to land a leg kick but Foster is out of range.
Foster tries for a takedown but Miller circles away easily

and Miller counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Foster's guard now.
Miller is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Miller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Miller's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Miller controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Miller decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Miller drives through and clinches with Foster against the cage.
Miller lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Foster tries to circle away but Miller has him pinned against the cage.
Foster taking a breather.
Miller lands a right hand.
Miller stalling.

Miller turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Miller manages to end up in side control.
Foster tries to buck Miller off but Miller is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Foster is working to avoid the ground and pound but Miller connects with a decent elbow.
Foster tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Miller remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Miller decides to stand back up. Miller steps back and let's Foster get back to his feet.
Foster tries to bum rush Miller with a series of wild strikes but Miller uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Miller closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Foster did well to prevent Miller getting side control.
Miller is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Foster!

Foster tries to lock up and control but Miller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Miller controlling his opponent.

Foster slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Foster tries to roll over but Miller keeps him under control.
Foster is trying to control but can't.
Foster missing with punches from the bottom.
James Miller has got the better of the ground game so far.
Miller controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Let's hope that Miller has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Foster is trying to control but can't.
Foster tries to roll over but Miller keeps him under control.

Miller passes to side control.
Foster is looking for a sweep.
A lull in the action here.

Miller decides to stand back up. Miller steps back and let's Foster get back to his feet.
Foster throws a leg kick but Miller checks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Foster misses with a takedown
and Miller counters with a straight right hand.

Miller scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Miller has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Miller throws a sloppy head kick and Foster moves out of range easily.
Foster misses with a takedown

and Miller counters with a takedown into side control.
Foster tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Foster manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
