PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ozzy Rass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo Souto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renzo Souto told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ozzy Rass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renzo Souto!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rass closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Souto tries to bench press Rass off him but Rass keeps the position.
Souto is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rass tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Souto.
Souto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Souto is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rass pulls his head out easily.
Souto wants to control but Rass is keeping busy.
Well, if Rass is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Souto is looking to improve his position.
Souto slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Souto throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Rass stands and steps away. Souto gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Rass shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Souto napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Souto looks up at the clock and then as Rass takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Souto smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rass avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Souto.

Souto lands a few punches from side control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rass lands with an overhand left.
Rass lands a nice looking body shot.
Rass connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Rass drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rass stands up and waves to Souto to follow him.

Souto stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Rass.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rass's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rass lands a nice looking body shot.
Rass explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Souto misses with a takedown attempt
and Rass counters with a three punch combo that has Souto backing up. Souto nods at Rass to acknowledge the strikes.
Rass ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rass connects with a nice looking jab.

Rass wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Souto takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Rass lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Rass scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ozzy Rass dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ozzy Rass overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Souto has Rass pressed against the cage, preventing Rass from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rass wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rass darts in and clinches Souto up against the cage.

Rass escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rass stuns Souto with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Souto steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Rass. That one must have hurt.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Rass looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Souto!
Souto is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Souto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

and Rass counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rass will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Rass has hold of Souto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Souto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Souto drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rass dives on top into guard.

Souto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rass gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rass stands up and waves to Souto to follow him.

Ozzy Rass is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Souto is striking from the bottom but Rass uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Souto is not content to let Rass control the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Souto doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Renzo Souto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Souto had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rass is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Souto Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rass's back instead.

Rass manages to escape to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ozzy Rass showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Rass has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
