The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kumar is trying hard to land a takedown here. Helm sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Helm looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Helm takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nice body punch from Kumar. Kumar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Helm paws at him with a jab and circles away. Kumar tries to clinch there but Helm circles away.
Kumar feints and as Helm raises his hands in defense, Kumar changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kumar wanted to stand there but Helm had control of the position. Kumar trying to control but Helm is working from the bottom. Kumar scoring with punches to the head and body. Kumar scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Helm has a closed guard, preventing Kumar from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kumar cracks Helm with a solid left hand. Kumar has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Helm is proving hard to escape from. Helm avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Helm looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Helm keeping moving, preventing Kumar from controlling successfully. Helm looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Helm looking for a guillotine here but Kumar defends easily.
Kumar wants to stand but Helm has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Kumar stands up over Helm, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Kumar preventing the sweep.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Helm circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kumar moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Kumar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Helm sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kumar somewhat. Kumar punishes Helm's body with a nice straight punch. Kumar connects with a solid leg kick. Kumar shoots for a takedown but Helm saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alok Kumar. That's going to take a lot out of him. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kumar. Kumar could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Helm shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kumar is trying to defend but Helm finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Helm works his way into side control. Helm tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Helm has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Helm goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kumar has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Helm but great work by Kumar. Helm tries to bench press Kumar off him but Kumar keeps the position. Kumar is looking to take a break and control but Helm is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Helm is looking to regain half guard here but Kumar keeps moving and retains side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alok Kumar dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Helm takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Kumar tries to clinch but Helm is having none of it. Kumar shoots and misses and Helm counters with a takedown into side control. Kumar wants to control but Helm postures up. Helm misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Helm trying to control the position but Kumar is working away. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Helm is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kumar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Helm tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Helm looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Helm tries for a kimura but Kumar is defending well.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Kumar fails with the takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Helm tries for a kimura but Kumar is defending well. Helm has hold of Kumar's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Kumar seems comfortable defending it but Helm has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Kumar is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Kumar is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Helm couldn't care less - he's delighted!
