Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Boyce! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Franko! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boyce goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Boyce throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Franko. Franko looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Boyce tries to bum rush Franko with a series of wild strikes but Franko uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Franko shoots in for a takedown but Boyce shows good takedown defense. Boyce slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Boyce doesn't manage to clinch there - Franko circles away.
Franko has a takedown stuffed. Tommy Boyce has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Franko. Franko tries to clinch there but Boyce circles away.
Franko fails with a takedown attempt. No joy there for Boyce, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Boyce throws a right and a left that Franko avoids nicely. Boyce shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Franko but Franko pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyce lands an overhand right. Franko has a takedown stuffed. Horrible takedown by Franko or perhaps it was just good defense by Boyce which made him look bad. Boyce throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Boyce. Boyce looks to land a combination but Franko avoids it well. Boyce rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Franko moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Franko fails to land the takedown. Boyce shoots in but no luck this time. Boyce takes the fight into the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Boyce pulls his leg out and moves away.
Boyce tries to bum rush Franko with a series of wild strikes but Franko uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Boyce is breathing heavily. Franko scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Franko looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Franko stops Boyce from getting back to his feet.
Boyce is trying is best to control the position here. Franko is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Boyce is not content to let Franko control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boyce desperately trying to maintain half guard. Franko frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Franko avoids the attempt from Boyce to control. Franko working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Boyce is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Franko has hold of Boyce's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Boyce manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Boyce tries to hold on but Franko postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Franko with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Franko working for a guillotine from mount but Boyce is in no mood to give up. Boyce on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boyce tries to get out of the position. Boyce takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Franko working away from the top, dropping strikes. Boyce can't escape the position.
Franko is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Boyce is surviving well by controlling Franko's body position as best he can. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Boyce is trying to escape the mount.
Franko working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Franko dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Boyce misses with a few strikes there.

Boyce keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Boyce misses with a two punch combination.
Nice takedown defense from Franko. No joy for Boyce on that attempt. Tommy Boyce seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Boyce misses with a double jab.
Franko shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Franko in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Boyce tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Franko!
