Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Solomon Meite! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew Jones! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Joseph Jones and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meite shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one. Meite shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Meite blocks the strikes from Jones.
Jones tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Jones trying to control here.
Meite throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Meite not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Jones wants to get back to full guard but Meite has passed into side control. Jones is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Meite connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jones defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Meite. Jones keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Meite working for a submission but Jones is keeping him at bay. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meite. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Meite working away from the top, dropping strikes. Meite avoids the attempt from Jones to control. Meite is going olschool here, as he tries to force Jones to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jones shrugs it off. Jones really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. A nice elbow there by Meite. Meite avoids the attempt from Jones to control. Jones is squirming around, avoiding Meite's attempts to control the action. Jones tries to hold on but Meite postures up. Jones's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Jones tries to land a strike from the bottom but Meite has taken his back! He's got the choke... big trouble for Jones here! Jones is tapping! Great work there by Meite!
