The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez misses with a jab, cross combination.
No joy there for Watkins, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rodriguez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Watkins throws out the jab.
Rodriguez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
It looks like Matt Rodriguez has been cut.
Watkins misses with a wild body shot.
Watkins tries to close the distance and clinch but Rodriguez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Watkins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rodriguez pinned against the cage. Rodriguez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Watkins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rodriguez stuffs the takedown.
Watkins doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Rodriguez cracks Watkins with a right hand to the side of the head.

Watkins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rodriguez moves away.

Lenny Watkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Watkins scores with a jab to the body.
Rodriguez fails to land with a series of punches.
Rodriguez moves into range and clinches up with Watkins.
Rodriguez slowing the pace effectively.

Watkins with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Watkins swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rodriguez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Watkins takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Rodriguez counters with a nice uppercut.
Matt Rodriguez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lenny Watkins.

Watkins throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rodriguez's waist but Rodriguez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Watkins off to one side.
Rodriguez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Rodriguez thumps Watkins with a low kick.

and Rodriguez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rodriguez moves into range and clinches up with Watkins.
Rodriguez lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
It looks like Rodriguez is going to stand back up.

Rodriguez tries to stand but can't do so whilst Watkins controls his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Watkins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Watkins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rodriguez defends well.

Rodriguez trying to control the position from guard on top but Watkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rodriguez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Watkins is proving hard to escape from.
Rodriguez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Watkins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodriguez has managed to get both his arms back between Watkins's legs - danger averted.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Watkins is on top in guard.
Watkins wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Watkins throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Rodriguez counters by clinching up.
Rodriguez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Watkins looks to land a right hand but Rodriguez moved out of range.

Rodriguez misses with a wild combination.
Rodriguez lands a jab to the head.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Watkins.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Watkins throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rodriguez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rodriguez lands with a straight right. Watkins didn't see that one coming.

Watkins misses with a body shot.
Watkins thows a left - swing and a miss!
Watkins throws a series of punches but Rodriguez moves out of range.
Watkins lands a left and a right that send Rodriguez crashing to the mat, dazed. Watkins thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Rodriguez is rocked!
Watkins lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Rodriguez can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Watkins and Rodriguez drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Watkins.
