PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vance Kincaid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Afro Samurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Afro Samurai told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vance Kincaid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Afro Samurai!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samurai misses with a wild combination.
Kincaid tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Samurai fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Samurai shoots in and drives through. Kincaid sprawls well.
Samurai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kincaid is looking to clinch.
Samurai keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kincaid fails with an attempt to clinch.
Samurai dives in and grabs Kincaid's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kincaid pushes down on Samurai's head and hops out.
Vance Kincaid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Afro Samurai.
Kincaid gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Samurai counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Samurai.

Samurai controlling from the top position.
Samurai wants to pass the guard but Kincaid is keeping the position.
Samurai is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Samurai trying to control but Kincaid is working from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kincaid pushes Samurai off and scrambles back to his feet.
A combination from Kincaid does no damage.

Kincaid drives through and clinches with Samurai against the cage.
Samurai gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kincaid.

Kincaid breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Samurai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kincaid avoids it really well and circles away.
Samurai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kincaid is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Samurai throws a jab but it's blocked by Kincaid.
Kincaid tries to close the distance and clinch but Samurai swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nice uppercut lands for Kincaid. That snapped Samurai's head back.
Samurai looks to clinch

and Kincaid counters with a takedown into side control.

Samurai struggling a bit here.
Samurai might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kincaid kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kincaid stands up.
Samurai throws a series of punches but Kincaid moves out of range.
A combination from Samurai does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vance Kincaid dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kincaid throws a head kick but Samurai moves out of range.
Kincaid fails to land with a series of punches.
Samurai circles away from the clinch attempt

and Samurai counters by moving into the clinch.
Kincaid drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kincaid tries to land knees in the clinch but Samurai avoids the damage to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kincaid lands a nice knee to the body.

Kincaid breaks the clinch.
Kincaid connects with a high kick.
Samurai avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kincaid shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Samurai is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Samurai is trying to maintain the position but Kincaid is very close to passing his half guard.

Samurai actively working from the bottom here.
Kincaid not doing much here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Samurai keeping hold of Kincaid's head, controlling as best he can.
Samurai is looking to control Kincaid's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Samurai avoid being mounted?

Samurai is trying to get back to full guard.
Samurai is trying to stand back up but Kincaid is controlling him
Samurai is breathing heavily.
Kincaid seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kincaid is thwarting Samurai's attempts to control the position.
Kincaid wants to stand but Samurai has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kincaid misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vance Kincaid dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Samurai tries to clinch up but Kincaid circles away and keeps his distance.
Samurai leaves Kincaid with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Samurai looks to clinch

and Kincaid holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Samurai blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Samurai decides to pull guard.
Kincaid looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Samurai is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Samurai has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Kincaid landing some decent shots from guard.
Samurai can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kincaid controls the pace.
Samurai managing to control the position.

Samurai is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kincaid is controlling him.
Kincaid slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kincaid trying to stand up but can't free himself from Samurai's guard.

Samurai looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kincaid has picked Samurai up and slammed him! Samurai can't keep hold of the triangle and Kincaid manages to pass to side control!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Kincaid seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Samurai for as long as he can get away with.

Kincaid decides to stand back up.
Samurai misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kincaid has his takedown stuffed
and Samurai counters with a two punch combo.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Samurai avoids a punch combination nicely.

Samurai fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kincaid, pushing him back against the cage.

Samurai jumps guard and drags Kincaid to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kincaid wants to stand but Samurai has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Samurai controls Kincaid momentarily but Kincaid frees himself.
Afro Samurai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Vance Kincaid is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kincaid trying to control but Samurai is working from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Vance Kincaid.
Well Kincaid has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
