The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson connects with a single shot there. Powers shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely. Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson showed some decent athleticism there. Powers wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Powers is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Powers looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Johnson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Powers is looking to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Powers working to try and regain half guard.

Boom. That sent Powers stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Johnson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Johnson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Powers looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Johnson tries to stand but Powers is controlling his head. Johnson slows the pace down. Johnson working away. Johnson controls the position from side control.
