PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Arellano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Juan Arellano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Murphy!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Arellano lands a with a good body shot.
Murphy shoots in but Arellano avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Murphy keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Arellano misses with an uppercut. Murphy saw that one coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Murphy slips a straight right by Arellano.
Arellano swings for the body but Murphy moves out of range.
Arellano throws a series of punches but Murphy moves out of range.

Arellano stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Murphy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Arellano to the mat! Arellano manages to get full guard.

Murphy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Arellano is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Murphy, into his guard.

Murphy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Arellano is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Murphy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Arellano's back instead.

Arellano is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Arellano is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.

It looks like Charles Murphy has been cut.

Murphy bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fighters circle momentarily. Arellano darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Arellano will probably get the nod.

Murphy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Arellano's waist but Arellano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Murphy off to one side.

Arellano looks to land a combination but Murphy avoids it well.
Murphy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Arellano swivels and escapes.

Arellano throws the left hand but Murphy avoids the punch easily.
Murphy closes the distance and clinches up with Arellano, looking for a takedown. Murphy pushes Arellano against the cage but Arellano circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Juan Arellano is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Murphy has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Arellano throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Charles Murphy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Arellano, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
