PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Rustford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that James Rustford has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily James Rustford seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Rustford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sergio Jr!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jr has a takedown stuffed.
Nice sprawl there from Rustford as Jr shoots in.

Jr gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rustford to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rustford stands up from Jr's guard - Rustford perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Rustford counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
James Rustford has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergio Jr.
Jr gets full guard.
Jr keeping moving, preventing Rustford from controlling successfully.
Jr bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rustford's guard.
Rustford really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jr trying to control the position from guard on top but Rustford is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jr looking to sit in guard and control but Rustford gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rustford is looking to work some ground and pound but Jr has wrist control.
Rustford has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rustford is pushing down on Jr's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jr is fighting to maintain full guard but Rustford has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jr is trying to stand back up but Rustford is controlling him
Rustford stalling.
Jr trying to hold on to Rustford's head to control him but Rustford postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rustford passes to side control.
Rustford knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jr on the ground.
Jr sneaks back into half guard.
Jr looks gassed!
Jr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rustford is working away from the top position though.
Jr won't allow Rustford to pass to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jr wants to control but Rustford is keeping busy.
Jr is not content to let Rustford control the position.

Rustford stands up out of the half guard.
Jr tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rustford counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rustford is just content to waste time from the top position. Jr takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Jr has a closed guard, preventing Rustford from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jr wants to stand but Rustford is controlling the position.
Jr looking for a sweep. Not yet Jr, not yet.
Rustford trying to control but Jr is working from the bottom.
Jr trying to keep a closed guard but Rustford is proving a slippery customer.
Rustford stopping the sweep attempt from Jr.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Rustford dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Jr tries to clinch

and Rustford counters with a takedown into side control.

Rustford stands up.
Jr tries to clinch up

and Rustford counters by moving into the clinch.
Rustford is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jr is keeping busy.

Jr jumps into guard, dragging Rustford to the mat.
Jr is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jr has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Rustford defend it? Jr steps over the head and cranks it - Rustford is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Jr!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sergio Jr!
