Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Marshall Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grigori Kharkov! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kharkov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Marshall Jr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Kharkov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Marshall Jr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kharkov scoring with some ground and pound. Kharkov working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Marshall Jr's head. Marshall Jr throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Marshall Jr is breathing heavily. Marshall Jr looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kharkov is working Marshall Jr over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kharkov lands a couple of decent looking shots. Kharkov with a nice head shot there. Kharkov scoring with punches to the head and body. Kharkov trying to control but Marshall Jr is working from the bottom. Kharkov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kharkov landing some decent shots from guard. Kharkov wants to pass the guard but Marshall Jr is keeping the position. Kharkov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Kharkov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Marshall Jr's guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kharkov lands a nice short elbow. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Marshall Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Kharkov looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Ground and pound from Kharkov. Kharkov controlling the pace. Kharkov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kharkov lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Marshall Jr quite badly. Marshall Jr pulls Kharkov in close trying to recover. Kharkov postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Marshall Jr on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Marshall Jr doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
