Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ginchin Funakoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luiz Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ginchin Funakoshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luiz Palhares!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palhares tries to score a power double leg takedown but Funakoshi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Palhares somewhat.
Funakoshi lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Palhares gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Palhares is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Funakoshi is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Palhares looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Palhares thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Funakoshi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Funakoshi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Palhares is trying to control the position but Funakoshi postures up.

Funakoshi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Palhares manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Funakoshi has Palhares in his guard.
Palhares postures up in Funakoshi's guard and throws a big left but Funakoshi blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Funakoshi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Funakoshi keeping full guard, as Palhares tries to pass.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Funakoshi keeping moving, preventing Palhares from controlling successfully.

Palhares drops back looking for a leg! Funakoshi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Funakoshi manages to kick Palhares off! Palhares jumps back into Funakoshi's guard.

Funakoshi has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Palhares should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Funakoshi has tightened it up now! Palhares should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ginchin Funakoshi!
