Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Al Koholic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James McLaren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koholic comes to the cage accompanied by The Distance by Cake. James McLaren will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McLaren swats away the attempt to clinch by Koholic. McLaren connects with a right hand. Koholic shakes it off. McLaren tries to keep at a distance but Koholic has taken the fight into the clinch. McLaren breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McLaren lands a with a good body shot. The fight stays on the outside here - Koholic looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Koholic tries to close the distance and clinch up but McLaren swats him away and circles back towards the center. Koholic tries to clinch there but McLaren circles away.
Koholic tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Decent striking displayed by McLaren there. Koholic gets a clinch. A short right from Koholic on the inside. McLaren tries to break the clinch but Koholic is controlling the position. Koholic is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. McLaren stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. McLaren clinches. Koholic breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Koholic doesn't manage to clinch there - McLaren circles away.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts McLaren, as that shot connected.
Al Koholic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Koholic tries to grapple but his opponent circles enabling McLaren to counter with a crisp jab. McLaren misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Koholic.

McLaren clinches. Koholic with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

McLaren is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Koholic pulls him back up using the underhooks. McLaren looks gassed! A head punch blocked on the inside by Koholic. McLaren wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Koholic pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Koholic shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McLaren napping and manages to drive through into side control! McLaren is trying to buck Koholic off. McLaren trying to remain calm as Koholic controls from the top position. Koholic thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Koholic controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Koholic's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

McLaren moves into the clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Koholic lands an elbow inside. Koholic wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Al Koholic. That's going to take a lot out of him. A quick uppercut on the inside from Koholic. McLaren lands with a short head shot on the inside. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but James McLaren will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
McLaren gets caught flat footed, as Koholic shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Koholic wants to control from the top but McLaren keeps moving. Koholic is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Koholic seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McLaren for as long as he can get away with. McLaren is looking to stand up but Koholic isn't so interested in that idea. Koholic is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. McLaren is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Koholic passes McLaren's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

McLaren let out a lung full of air as it connected. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Koholic. Come on Koholic - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Koholic has McLaren pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Koholic pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McLaren tumbling to the mat - Koholic dives into McLaren's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Koholic is working McLaren over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Koholic controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Koholic has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Koholic might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
