Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Rafael!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie tries to clinch there but Rafael circles away.

Rafael closes the distance and clinches.

Rafael tightens his grip and picks Gracie up, before dumping him to the ground. Gracie manages to land in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rafael accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rafael has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rafael is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gracie has his foot on Rafael's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rafael works his way back into a safe position though.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rafael gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rafael is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracie has wrist control.

Rafael got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rafael has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
Rafael slips nicely into half guard.

Gracie looking for submissions off his back.
Rafael not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rafael has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rafael working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gracie looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Rafael! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Carlos Rafael!
