PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Connor Whitely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and cory Poole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Connor Whitely!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, cory Poole!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poole swats away the attempt to clinch by Whitely.
Whitely shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Poole but Poole pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Poole doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Whitely counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Poole is trying to drag Whitely to the mat but Whitely just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Poole is pushing Whitely up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Poole is pressed up against the cage. Whitely has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Poole down to the mat. Poole avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Whitely blocks a head kick by Poole.
Whitely doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Poole counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Connor Whitely. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Poole seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Whitely escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Poole gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Poole throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Whitely works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Poole content to stall in guard here.

Poole avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Whitely is trying to keep Poole in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Whitely clinches but Poole breaks the clinch

and Poole counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Whitely wants to sweep here but Poole controlling him for the moment.
Poole looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Poole gets to his feet - Whitely follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It looks like Connor Whitely has been cut.
Whitely misses with a head kick.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Whitely - that will leave a mark!
Horrible takedown by Poole or perhaps it was just good defense by Whitely which made him look bad.
Whitely pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Whitely doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Poole counters with a takedown into side control.
Poole is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Whitely will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Whitely wants to get back to his feet but Poole is dominant here and he's now got Whitely's back!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Poole controlling the positon.
Poole avoiding Whitely 's attempts to control his hands.
Poole really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Whitely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Whitely is trying to break free.
Poole controlling the position well here. Whitely rolled but Poole kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Poole just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Poole looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Whitely!
Poole lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Whitely hang on?
Whitely tries to hold on but Poole pushes him away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Despite being in the dominant position, cory Poole just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Whitely doesn't manage to clinch there - Poole circles away.

Poole is looking to clinch but Whitely is avoiding it.
Connor Whitely is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Poole shoots in for a takedown but Whitely shows good takedown defense.

Poole closes the distance and pushes Whitely back into the cage.

Poole manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Whitely's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Poole is pulling down on Whitely's head to control his posture.
Poole takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Whitely trying to control the position from guard on top but Poole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Whitely is really struggling to control Poole but he's trying to hold on to the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
cory Poole comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Poole has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
