The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Donaldson moves away from the strike by Nelson. Nelson thows a body shot but no joy. Nelson misses with a two punch combination.
Donaldson keeps the fight on the outside. Donaldson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Donaldson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Donaldson is looking for a kimura. Donaldson looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Donaldson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Nelson puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Nelson moves nicely into side control. Donaldson is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on Donaldson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Nelson tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Nelson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Donaldson to his feet. Donaldson fails with a takedown attempt. Donaldson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Nelson. Nelson obviously looking to wear him down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Nelson. No joy for Donaldson on that attempt. Donaldson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Donaldson moves into the clinch successfully.

Donaldson forces his way into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nelson is defending against the submission attempts here by Donaldson.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Donaldson passes the guard and advances to mount! Donaldson wants to control the pace but Nelson is squirming around nicely. Donaldson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Nelson has worked his arm free - good work by Nelson!
Nelson prevents Donaldson from moving into mount. Donaldson swings around for an armbar but Nelson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Donaldson's guard. Donaldson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nelson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Donaldson. Donaldson on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Donaldson is trying to work for a sweep but Nelson has mounted him! Nelson trying to control but Donaldson is having none of it. Donaldson is looking to get to half guard. Nelson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Donaldson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Donaldson landing strikes, looking to finish!
Nelson is rocked!
It looks like Clifford Nelson has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Donaldson swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
