PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Beni Nikaido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pernell Whittaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Beni Nikaido!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pernell Whittaker!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whittaker pulls out of a head kick attempt.

It looks like Beni Nikaido has been cut.

Nikaido shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Whittaker is trying to defend but Nikaido finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Whittaker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nikaido circles away quickly and effectively.

Nikaido shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Whittaker's guard.
Whittaker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nikaido. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nikaido is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whittaker is just riding it out for now. Nikaido eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nikaido looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Nikaido is going olschool here, as he tries to force Whittaker to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Whittaker shrugs it off.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Beni Nikaido.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nikaido, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
