PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Dolbakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maksim Vinogradov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dolbakov comes into the arena with Radiohead-Creep blaring out of the sound system. Maksim Vinogradov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Dolbakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maksim Vinogradov!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vinogradov throws a head kick but Dolbakov moves out of range.

Dolbakov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dolbakov showed some decent athleticism there.
Vinogradov tries to kick Dolbakov off but Dolbakov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dolbakov wants to get back to his feet.

Dolbakov gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Vinogradov shoots and misses
and Dolbakov counters with a left and a right that stings Vinogradov.
Vinogradov tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so Dolbakov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dolbakov wants to control from the top but Vinogradov keeps moving.

Vinogradov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dolbakov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Vinogradov is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dolbakov drops back looking for a leg! Vinogradov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vinogradov manages to kick Dolbakov off! Dolbakov jumps back into Vinogradov's guard.
Vinogradov is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dolbakov is controlling him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Dolbakov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vinogradov to the mat! Vinogradov manages to get full guard.
Dolbakov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Dolbakov tries to stand but Vinogradov is controlling from the bottom.

Ivan Dolbakov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maksim Vinogradov.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vinogradov wants to stand but Dolbakov has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vinogradov is trying to control the action in half guard but Dolbakov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Dolbakov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Dolbakov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Dolbakov stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Vinogradov to get to his feet.
Vinogradov wants to clinch.

Vinogradov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Vinogradov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Dolbakov bucks up and throws Vinogradov to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Dolbakov thows a body shot but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vinogradov has his takedown stuffed
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Dolbakov counters with a single leg into guard. Vinogradov didn't expect that.
Vinogradov is looking to stand up but Dolbakov isn't so interested in that idea.

Dolbakov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Dolbakov wanted to stand there but Vinogradov had control of the position.
Vinogradov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Vinogradov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Vinogradov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Vinogradov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Dolbakov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

so Dolbakov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vinogradov is adopting a defensive guard.
Dolbakov wants to control from the top but Vinogradov keeps moving.

Dolbakov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Vinogradov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dolbakov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dolbakov has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vinogradov slaps away a takedown attempt from Dolbakov, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Vinogradov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Vinogradov is fighting to break Dolbakov's control of his arms but Dolbakov is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Vinogradov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dolbakov, up you get!

Dolbakov is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vinogradov's shoulder. That is not cool.
Vinogradov is trying to control Dolbakov's posture but Dolbakov avoids it.

Dolbakov decides to stand back up. Dolbakov steps back and let's Vinogradov get back to his feet.
Dolbakov is looking to clinch but Vinogradov is avoiding it.

Dolbakov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Vinogradov is not content to let Dolbakov control the position.
Vinogradov is trying to control Dolbakov's posture but Dolbakov avoids it.

Dolbakov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Dolbakov throws an elbow but Vinogradov slips to the side and avoids it well.

Dolbakov tries for a kimura but Vinogradov is defending well.

A lull in the action here as Dolbakov stalls from top position.

Ivan Dolbakov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dolbakov controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ivan Dolbakov showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dolbakov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
