Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Matos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dylan Laidlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dylan Laidlaw acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Matos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dylan Laidlaw! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laidlaw fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matos avoids it really well and circles away. Laidlaw should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Matos with a lazy takedown attempt so Laidlaw counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Laidlaw controlling from the top position. Laidlaw has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matos is proving hard to escape from. Laidlaw is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Laidlaw trying to stand up but can't free himself from Matos's guard. Matos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Matos throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laidlaw preventing the sweep. Laidlaw looking to pass the guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Laidlaw shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Matos pinned against the cage. Matos gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Matos avoids the body shot from Laidlaw.
Matos shoots and misses and Laidlaw counters with a single leg into guard. Matos didn't expect that. Matos is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Matos throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos keeping moving, preventing Laidlaw from controlling successfully. Laidlaw stays in close to Matos's body and controls the position. Matos tries to land a sweep but no joy. Laidlaw would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Laidlaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Laidlaw looks gassed! Laidlaw wants to stand and escape but instead Matos has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Matos stopping the sweep attempt from Laidlaw.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matos throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Matos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Laidlaw throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Matos. Matos shoots and misses and Laidlaw decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Matos's guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrigo Matos. That's going to take a lot out of him. Laidlaw stays in close to Matos's body and controls the position. Laidlaw wants to pass the guard but Matos is keeping the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matos looking to control but Laidlaw passes into half guard.
Laidlaw stands up from half guard. Matos fails with the takedown and Laidlaw counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Laidlaw trying to control the pace. Laidlaw winds up and cracks Matos with a swinging punch to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dylan Laidlaw dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Matos tries to bum rush Laidlaw with a series of wild strikes but Laidlaw uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Matos with a poor takedown and Laidlaw counters with a nice double leg into side control. Matos won't be happy with that. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Laidlaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Laidlaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Laidlaw decides to stand up, so the ref orders Matos to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matos with a poor takedown and Laidlaw counters with a shoot takedown. Matos fights it but they end up in guard. Dylan Laidlaw has got the better of the ground game so far. Matos is trying to keep Laidlaw in close.
Laidlaw content to stall in guard here. Laidlaw landing some decent shots from guard. Laidlaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matos swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Laidlaw keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Matos's head. Laidlaw working some strikes from top position. Laidlaw is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Matos tries to land a sweep but no joy. Laidlaw is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matos looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Laidlaw sitting in guard here, content to control. Matos keeping moving, preventing Laidlaw from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Laidlaw passes into half guard. Matos is trying to get back to full guard. Matos is trying to maintain the position but Laidlaw is very close to passing his half guard. Laidlaw is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dylan Laidlaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Laidlaw thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Matos if he has to take too many more of those.
Matos doesn't succeed with the takedown and Laidlaw counters with a shoot takedown. Matos fights it but they end up in guard. Matos keeping full guard, as Laidlaw tries to pass. Matos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Laidlaw gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Matos is working an open guard so Laidlaw takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laidlaw closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Matos tries to pull guard but Laidlaw holds him up against the cage and eventually Matos drops back down to his feet.

Matos throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Laidlaw seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Laidlaw trying to strike off his back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos has gone for a leg lock! Laidlaw slips out almost immediately though and dives into Matos's guard. Matos is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Laidlaw dives into side control.
Laidlaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Laidlaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matos taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laidlaw tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Laidlaw working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Laidlaw just content to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Laidlaw working the head with strikes. Laidlaw gets to mount! Matos was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Laidlaw content just to control the position here. Matos really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that's the end of the fight! Dylan Laidlaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Laidlaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
