Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ankka Silva!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva scores a takedown into full mount!
Rua is trying to escape the mount.
Silva sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Rua is trying to escape the mount.
Rua's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Rua sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Rua misses with some strikes from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, if Silva is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Silva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Rua trying to control but Silva postures up.
Silva is taking a breather. Rua says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Rua is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rua avoid being mounted?

Rua looking for submissions off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rua tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg.
Silva with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Silva decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Silva on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rua. Rua obviously looking to wear him down.
A nice leg kick lands there from Rua.
Silva fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rua doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Silva counters by clinching up.
Rua tries a knee to the head but Silva blocks it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rua has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Silva is trying to maintain a safe position but Rua gets an underhook and turns Silva into the cage.

Silva breaks from the clinch.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rua tries to clinch there but Silva circles away.
Rua throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rua looks to clinch

and Silva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rua's guard now.
Silva looks gassed!

Rua has an active guard here but Silva has managed to pass into half guard.
Rua is trying to get back to full guard.
Rua gets full guard.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rua swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rua is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Silva is aware though and is defending well.

Rua looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Silva wants to control from the top but Rua keeps moving.
Rua trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Rua is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Rua is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ankka Silva dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rua tries to clinch up

and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rua not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Silva should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rua doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rua is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Silva has his hands clasped together but Rua extends an breaks Silva's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rua.
