Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bob Hooidjonk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ravish McTavish! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McTavish fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hooidjonk manages to avoid it. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk doesn't manage to clinch there - McTavish circles away.
A telegraphed right hand from McTavish misses the target. Hooidjonk will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hooidjonk tries to clinch there but McTavish circles away.
McTavish lands with a right hand. Hooidjonk fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Hooidjonk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. McTavish throws a shot from downtown. Hooidjonk moves away and avoids it. Hooidjonk moves out of range of the strikes. McTavish showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hooidjonk.
Hooidjonk avoids a lazy jab quite easily. McTavish lands with a straight right. Hooidjonk didn't see that one coming.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Good work by Hooidjonk as he checks the leg kick. McTavish throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hooidjonk counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hooidjonk trying to mount his opponent but McTavish defends it. Hooidjonk not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hooidjonk wants to advance to full mount but McTavish doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. McTavish is looking to stand up but Hooidjonk isn't so interested in that idea. McTavish keeping moving, preventing Hooidjonk from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McTavish wants to stand up but Hooidjonk is controlling him. Hooidjonk in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Hooidjonk working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. McTavish throws a hook to the side of Hooidjonk's head but Hooidjonk sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Hooidjonk looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for McTavish! McTavish avoids a series of strikes thrown by Hooidjonk.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hooidjonk moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, McTavish has worked his arm free - good work by McTavish!
Hooidjonk working away. McTavish dodges the ground and pound from Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk creates some space and throws a big elbow, but McTavish sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Hooidjonk goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McTavish has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hooidjonk but great work by McTavish. Hooidjonk tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McTavish wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hooidjonk tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but McTavish presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! McTavish controlling the position easily from mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ravish McTavish will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
McTavish stuffs the takedown attempt from Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk gets slowly back to his feet. McTavish throws a big shot that misses. He's got his arms around McTavish's waist but McTavish gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hooidjonk off to one side. McTavish lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. McTavish tries to bum rush Hooidjonk with a series of wild strikes but Hooidjonk uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Hooidjonk shoots in but no luck this time. Hooidjonk ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hooidjonk defending well as McTavish loads up on a big left hand. Hooidjonk shoots in for a takedown but McTavish shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. McTavish lands with an overhand left. McTavish waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McTavish as he jumps to the side. Hooidjonk fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hooidjonk ducks under a wild hook from McTavish. No luck for Hooidjonk with that takedown attempt. McTavish defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk fails with a takedown attempt. McTavish misses with an uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hooidjonk takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Hooidjonk avoids a punch combination nicely.
McTavish thows a left - swing and a miss! McTavish lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Hooidjonk fails with a takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ravish McTavish showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Hooidjonk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Hooidjonk tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McTavish swivels and escapes. Hooidjonk dives in and grabs McTavish's left leg, looking for a takedown. McTavish pushes down on Hooidjonk's head and hops out. McTavish scores with a jab. Hooidjonk acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
It looks like Bob Hooidjonk has been cut. McTavish throws a jab but it's blocked by Hooidjonk. Hooidjonk shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Hooidjonk has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. McTavish is trying to stand back up but Hooidjonk is controlling him
Hooidjonk with the ground and pound but McTavish uses the opportunity to regain guard. Hooidjonk throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hooidjonk wants to pass the guard but McTavish is keeping the position. McTavish wants to stand but Hooidjonk is controlling the position. Hooidjonk trying to control the position from guard on top but McTavish is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. McTavish has Hooidjonk pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hooidjonk fails with an attempt to clinch.
McTavish misses with a leg kick and Hooidjonk counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McTavish's guard now. Hooidjonk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hooidjonk wants to control from the top but McTavish keeps moving. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hooidjonk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McTavish preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Hooidjonk is looking to work some ground and pound but McTavish has wrist control. Hooidjonk thows a big elbow that misses. Hooidjonk wants to pass the guard but McTavish is keeping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hooidjonk postures up and lands a big shot to McTavish's brow. Hooidjonk throws a big right hand that misses. Hooidjonk pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McTavish is keeping the position for now. Hooidjonk is looking to work some ground and pound but McTavish has wrist control. Ravish McTavish is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. McTavish utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Hooidjonk postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hooidjonk wants to pass the guard but McTavish is keeping the position. Hooidjonk trying to control but McTavish is working from the bottom. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hooidjonk throws a strike but McTavish rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. McTavish wants to stand but Hooidjonk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bob Hooidjonk. I think McTavish has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
