PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Angell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Angell!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown fails to land the takedown.
Angell looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Brown misses with a takedown attempt - Angell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Brown will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Angell closes the distance and clinches.
Brown is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Angell is keeping busy.

Brown throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Angell.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Angell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brown's waist but Brown gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Angell off to one side.

Brown is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Brown is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Angell moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Brown has worked his arm free - good work by Brown!

Nick Angell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Angell counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Brown wants to get back to his feet but Angell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Angell has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Brown clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Angell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brown slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Angell has a closed guard, preventing Brown from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Angell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Brown is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Brown passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Angell!

Angell takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Brown lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Angell!
Angell tries to lock up and control but Brown gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Brown is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Angell is surviving well by controlling Brown's body position as best he can.
Angell has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Brown is looking to control Angell but Angell is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Can Angell hold on?! Brown is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Angell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Brown's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Angell connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Brown some visible discomfort.

Angell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Angell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nick Angell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Angell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
