Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark MacLeod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Esteban Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
MacLeod throws a shot from downtown. Ruiz moves away and avoids it.
MacLeod tries a head kick but it misses.

Ruiz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ruiz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as MacLeod works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
MacLeod keeping moving, preventing Ruiz from controlling successfully.
MacLeod is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

MacLeod looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

MacLeod looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ruiz tries to get to full guard but MacLeod has control of the leg.

MacLeod perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Ruiz is looking to control MacLeod's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ruiz avoid being mounted?
MacLeod seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ruiz wants to control but MacLeod is keeping busy and won't allow it.
MacLeod looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mark MacLeod just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
MacLeod stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and MacLeod wants it to stay on the feet.

and Ruiz counters with a one-two to the body.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
I would not like to be Ruiz right now.
Ruiz is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get MacLeod off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Oooh a big shot gets through from MacLeod. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Ruiz with a lazy takedown attempt
and MacLeod counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Ruiz is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Ruiz dodges the punch combination from MacLeod.
Ruiz jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mark MacLeod seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruiz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ruiz wants to clinch but MacLeod slips to the side

and MacLeod counters with a shoot takedown. Ruiz fights it but they end up in guard.
MacLeod is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
MacLeod is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ruiz doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
MacLeod's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ruiz is breathing heavily.
Ruiz wants to stand but MacLeod is controlling the position.

MacLeod drops back looking for a leg! Ruiz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ruiz manages to kick MacLeod off! MacLeod jumps back into Ruiz's guard.

Ruiz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for MacLeod!

MacLeod holds on for dear life, controlling Ruiz's posture momentarily.
MacLeod is looking to improve his position but Ruiz isn't that keen on the idea.
Mark MacLeod overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ruiz avoids the attempt from MacLeod to control.
Poor strikes thrown by Ruiz there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
MacLeod can't escape the position.
MacLeod wants to hold on but Ruiz pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruiz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as MacLeod is looking to escape.

MacLeod slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Ruiz looking to sit in guard and control but MacLeod gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
MacLeod controls from within his opponent's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
MacLeod slips nicely into half guard.
MacLeod sitting and controlling from the half guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mark MacLeod just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
MacLeod throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
MacLeod will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



MacLeod looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
MacLeod performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
MacLeod is pressing down on Ruiz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ruiz is holding on for now.

MacLeod has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Ruiz pushes MacLeod off looking to stand but MacLeod dives back in and keeps control.
Ruiz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with MacLeod in particular looking to stall.
Ruiz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ruiz.

MacLeod cracks Ruiz with a solid left hand.
MacLeod pushing down on Ruiz's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Ruiz tries to push off, looking to stand up, but MacLeod manages to move to mount!

MacLeod is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ruiz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

MacLeod lands a nice shot to the head.

MacLeod prevents Ruiz from getting the reversal.
Ruiz tries to lock up and control but MacLeod gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
MacLeod tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

MacLeod closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ruiz is being controlled here.
MacLeod lands an elbow.
Ruiz seems a little lost for a moment, as MacLeod dominates the positioning.
Ruiz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, MacLeod asserts his dominance and retains side control.
A lull in the action here as MacLeod stalls from top position.

Well MacLeod has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
