Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Leigh Irons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Mendosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulo Mendosa is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leigh Irons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paulo Mendosa!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irons has Mendosa up against the cage in a clinch.
Mendosa tries to pull guard but Irons holds him up against the cage and eventually Mendosa drops back down to his feet.
Mendosa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Irons is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Irons breaks the clinch.
Irons gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mendosa to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mendosa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Irons controls Mendosa momentarily but Mendosa frees himself.
Mendosa wants to control from the top but Irons keeps moving.
Mendosa connects with a couple of short punches.
Mendosa content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Mendosa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Irons swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Irons escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendosa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Irons is breathing heavily.
Mendosa drops back looking for a leg! Irons is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Irons manages to kick Mendosa off! Mendosa jumps back into Irons's guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Irons defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mendosa.
Leigh Irons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Mendosa.
Mendosa moves out of range of the body kick from Irons.
Irons will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Irons has managed to clinch.
Irons prevents the takedown attempt.
Irons wants the takedown. Mendosa is fighting it off but Irons persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mendosa's guard against the cage.
Mendosa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Irons manages to get himself to full guard.

Mendosa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Irons avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Irons not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mendosa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Irons drives through and clinches with Mendosa against the cage.
Mendosa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Irons just stands there and leans against the cage.
Irons breaks from the clinch.
Mendosa scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendosa shoots in and drives through. Irons sprawls well.
Mendosa shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Irons throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mendosa was covering up waiting for the punch and Irons finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mendosa is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Irons is aware though and is defending well.
Irons pushes down on Mendosa's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mendosa makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mendosa.
Irons wants to control from the top but Mendosa keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Leigh Irons will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

so Irons counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mendosa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Irons trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendosa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Irons trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Irons wanted to stand there but Mendosa had control of the position.
Mendosa looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Irons is defending well. Mendosa quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Irons has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Mendosa celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
