PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dick Hommis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lou Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Lou Carter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dick Hommis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lou Carter!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hommis slaps away a takedown attempt from Carter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Carter will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Hommis takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Carter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Carter looks for a takedown but Hommis sprawls well.
Carter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Carter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hommis swivels and escapes.
Dick Hommis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lou Carter.
Carter doesn't manage to clinch there - Hommis circles away.
Carter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hommis defends it nicely.
Hommis avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter tries for a takedown but Hommis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hommis closes the distance looking to clinch

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch.
Hommis fails to pull guard.
Hommis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Carter has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hommis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hommis stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Hommis has Carter pressed against the cage, preventing Carter from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Hommis pulls guard effortlessly.

Hommis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carter forces his way into half guard.
Carter tries to stand and escape but Hommis actually recovers to full guard.
Carter looks gassed!
Hommis pulls Carter in close to his closed guard and prevents Carter from doing any damage or advancing position.
Carter trying to control but Hommis is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter is looking to stand up but Hommis won't let him.
Carter looking to sit in guard and control but Hommis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Carter working a defensive guard but Hommis manages to pass into side control anyway.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter seems a little lost for a moment, as Hommis dominates the positioning.
Hommis tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Hommis presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dick Hommis will probably get the nod.
That's time! Hommis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Carter misses with a wild combination.
Carter tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hommis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Carter is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Hommis wants to stall.
Carter tries to break the clinch but Hommis is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hommis is pushing Carter up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Carter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dick Hommis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Carter looks to clinch

and Hommis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Carter taking a breather.
Carter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hommis is struggling to control the position.
Carter tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hommis avoids it.
Carter is looking to break free of the clinch but Hommis has double underhooks.
Hommis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Carter has had enough of the clinch but Hommis keeps him there for the moment.
Carter effectively controlling the action here.
Carter can't break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hommis stops a takedown attempt from Carter.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Carter drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hommis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dick Hommis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lou Carter.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hommis as he jumps to the side.
Hommis tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Carter counters with a two punch combo.
Hommis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carter swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hommis has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hommis jumps guard but Carter stands there with Hommis around his waist. Hommis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hommis gets control of Carter's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hommis will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Carter wants to stand but Hommis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carter wants to stand and escape but instead Hommis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hommis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Carter wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carter wants to stand and escape but Hommis is having none of it.
Hommis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Carter looking to control but Hommis passes into half guard.
Hommis keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hommis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Carter knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Hommis dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Carter tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Hommis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hommis.
Carter misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hommis blocking some punches.
Hommis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carter smiles and moves away.
Carter wants to clinch but Hommis slips to the side

and Hommis counters by moving into the clinch.
Carter is trying to break the clinch but Hommis is controlling him.

Carter manages to break the clinch.
Carter dives in and grabs Hommis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hommis pushes down on Carter's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hommis manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hommis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Carter working a defensive guard but Hommis manages to pass into side control anyway.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hommis gets to mount! Carter was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Hommis avoids the attempt from Carter to control.
Hommis controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Carter tries to hold on but Hommis postures up.
Hommis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carter is desperately trying to improve his position but Hommis has a good base and remains in mount.
Carter looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Hommis really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Carter.
Lou Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hommis keeps control of the position as Carter tries to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dick Hommis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hommis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
