PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Hardin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hardin comes into the arena with Whitechapel - Possession blaring out of the sound system. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Hardin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Johnson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hardin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Hardin's legs - danger averted.
Hardin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Johnson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Johnson is looking to escape.
Hardin is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Hardin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hardin seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Hardin is looking to pass Johnson's guard but actually Johnson recovers to full guard.
Hardin is breathing heavily.

Hardin postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it.

Johnson wriggles free and stands up.

Johnson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnson lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hardin looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Johnson has picked Hardin up and slammed him! Hardin can't keep hold of the triangle and Johnson manages to pass to side control!
Hardin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Johnson decides to stand back up.
Johnson lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Jack Hardin has been cut.
Johnson wants to land a leg kick but Hardin is out of range.
Hardin moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Johnson instigates a clinch.
Hardin prevents a takedown attempt there.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Johnson.
Johnson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hardin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Johnson pulls guard successfully.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hardin is controlling him.
Hardin throws a strike but Johnson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hardin on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Hardin wants to get back to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hardin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Johnson lands a nice short elbow.
Hardin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hardin is pressing down on Johnson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Johnson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Hardin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Johnson scores with a takedown into Hardin's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Johnson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack Hardin's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Johnson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Hardin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hardin misses with a two punch combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hardin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hardin sprawls well. Hardin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet.
Johnson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Hardin tries to clinch but Johnson is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Johnson dives in and grabs Hardin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hardin pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.

Jack Hardin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hardin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johnson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Johnson throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hardin tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hardin working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Hardin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Hardin is trying to get an arm triangle but Johnson is defending well.
Johnson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hardin asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Johnson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hardin's best efforts.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johnson is trying to stand up here but Hardin is controlling him well.

Hardin is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
Hardin wants to clinch.
Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw.
Johnson stalks Hardin and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hardin's face. Hardin staggers backwards, shaken.
Johnson swats away the attempt to clinch by Hardin.
Hardin fails with the takedown.
Johnson shoots for a double leg takedown but Hardin sprawls well. He's pushed Johnson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Johnson scores with a nice head shot.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hardin to the mat! Hardin manages to get full guard.

Johnson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hardin, up you get!
Johnson fails to land the takedown.
Hardin is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Johnson.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Hardin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hardin.
Hardin throws an elbow but it misses.
Johnson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hardin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Jack Hardin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Johnson.
Hardin tries to score a body lock takedown but Johnson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hardin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Johnson smiles and moves away.
Johnson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hardin counters with a one-two to the body.
A combination from Johnson does no damage.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hardin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hardin.

Johnson wants to control from the top but Hardin keeps moving.

Hardin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Hardin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hardin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Johnson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Johnson stands up and waves to Hardin to follow him.
Hardin throws a head kick that half lands.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Hardin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hardin keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.

Hardin is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Johnson dives into side control.

Hardin gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hardin is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Johnson jumps into side control!

Brian Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
