Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joza Smrk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gegard Mousasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gegard Mousasi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joza Smrk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gegard Mousasi! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Mousasi or perhaps it was just good defense by Smrk which made him look bad. Smrk throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mousasi was covering up waiting for the punch and Smrk finishes the takedown easily into guard. Smrk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smrk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Mousasi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smrk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Smrk drops back for a leg! The fighters roll with the hold and Mousasi manages to kick Smrk off! Smrk jumps back into Mousasi's guard. Smrk is breathing heavily. Smrk prevents Mousasi from getting back to his feet. Smrk is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mousasi wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mousasi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smrk shoots in for a takedown but Mousasi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Mousasi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smrk, pushing him back against the cage. Mousasi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mousasi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smrk paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mousasi tries to clinch up. Mousasi moves into the clinch successfully.
Smrk jumps into guard, dragging Mousasi to the mat.
Smrk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mousasi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Smrk is looking for a triangle but Mousasi pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mousasi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smrk has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mousasi has managed to get both his arms back between Smrk's legs - danger averted. Smrk looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mousasi has picked Smrk up and slammed him! Smrk can't keep hold of the triangle and Mousasi manages to pass to side control! Mousasi wants to stand but Smrk has his arm trapped. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Smrk is looking for a sweep.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mousasi lands with a slapping head kick. Mousasi wants to clinch. Mousasi leaves Smrk with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mousasi wants to clinch. Mousasi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smrk as he jumps to the side. Joza Smrk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smrk changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mousasi tries to avoid it but Smrk manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mousasi to the ground. Mousasi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joza Smrk. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mousasi gets a clinch. Smrk jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mousasi walks away with a smile on his face. Smrk gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Smrk circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mousasi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Smrk shoots for a takedown but Mousasi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Mousasi doesn't manage to clinch there - Smrk circles away.
Smrk misses with a takedown and Mousasi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Mousasi tries to pass to full mount but Smrk defends it. Smrk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smrk is working hard here to advance position. Mousasi stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Nice sprawl there from Mousasi as Smrk shoots in. Mousasi fails in his attempt to clinch. Smrk blocks a head kick by Mousasi.
Smrk fails to land the takedown. Smrk shoots in for a takedown but Mousasi shows good takedown defense. Mousasi wants to clinch. Mousasi rushes Smrk and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Smrk fails to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mousasi is trying to stall.
Smrk gets underhooks to prevent Mousasi's takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gegard Mousasi dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Smrk tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mousasi swivels and escapes. Mousasi tries to clinch but Smrk moves out of range. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Smrk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mousasi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smrk somewhat. Mousasi has closed the distance and engaged Smrk in a clinch.
Smrk fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joza Smrk. That's going to take a lot out of him. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Smrk as Mousasi tries to tie him up. Mousasi wants a takedown but no success here.
Smrk tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mousasi pushes Smrk back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Mousasi breaks from the clinch.
Mousasi lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Mousasi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Mousasi controlling the action here. Smrk looking for submissions off his back. Smrk actively working from the bottom here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smrk looking for submissions off his back. Smrk wants to get back to full guard. Mousasi performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Smrk is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mousasi pulls his head out easily. Smrk looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Smrk tries for a takedown but Mousasi circles away easily and Mousasi counters with a two punch combo. Smrk shoots and misses and Mousasi holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Mousasi lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Smrk backwards. Mousasi fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Smrk is looking for a triangle but Mousasi pushes his legs off easily.
Smrk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mousasi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mousasi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Smrk is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mousasi defends well. Gegard Mousasi has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mousasi wants to get up but he can't break Smrk's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Smrk is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Mousasi rolls with it to try and escape but Smrk cranks on the arm and Mousasi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
