Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Carter!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter drives through and clinches with Gracie against the cage.
Gracie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carter smiles and moves away.
Gracie defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Carter.
Carter is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.

Gracie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gracie pulls Carter in close to his closed guard and prevents Carter from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter is working Gracie over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Carter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie managing to control the position.
Carter wants to stand and escape but instead Gracie has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Carter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie is trying to keep Carter in close.
Carter wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.

Carter passes into half guard.

Gracie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carter's half guard.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Carter is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carter looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Gracie has picked Carter up and slammed him! Carter can't keep hold of the triangle and Gracie manages to pass to side control!
Carter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gracie asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Carter tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carter looks to move to half guard but instead Gracie has passed into mount! Damn!

Carter is breathing heavily.
Gracie sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carter is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Gracie looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Carter tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Carter shoots and misses

and Gracie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gracie.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter, not yet.
Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Carter wants to improve his position but instead Gracie has moved into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gracie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Carter is looking to improve his position.
Carter wants to get back to his feet.
Carter is trying to control but can't.
Carter tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carter!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter is looking to escape.
Carter really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Carter wants to get back to full guard.
Gracie passes into side control, despite Carter's attempt to control the position.
Carter tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.

Carter manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
Gracie is thwarting Carter's attempts to control the position.
Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Carter clinches but Gracie breaks the clinch

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Carter throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Carter controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royce Gracie had his way with Charles Carter in that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Gracie wants to control but Carter is keeping him busy.
Carter tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Gracie easily slips into full mount!
Carter can't escape the position.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Carter tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.
Carter is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Royce Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
