Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danilo Garcia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danilo Shadow! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia keeps the fight on the outside. Garcia fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Shadow is out of range. Garcia misses with a two punch combination.
Shadow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Shadow is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Garcia misses with a wild combination.
Garcia tries a head kick but it misses.
Shadow avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Shadow throws a left and a right that both miss
and Garcia counters with a two punch combo. Shadow leaves Garcia with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shadow throws a sloppy head kick and Garcia moves out of range easily. Shadow tries to close the distance and clinch but Garcia swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Garcia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shadow looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Shadow is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shadow wants to clinch up but Garcia keeps it at a distance. Shadow misses with a wild combination.
Garcia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shadow looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Shadow is not content to let Garcia control the position. Shadow is looking for a sweep. Garcia is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Shadow will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Shadow is looking to reverse the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shadow is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Garcia throws a strike aimed at the side of Shadow's head but Shadow avoids it well. Shadow is trying to improve his position. Garcia is looking to take a break and control but Shadow is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Shadow changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Garcia tries to avoid it but Shadow manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Garcia to the ground. Garcia escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Garcia pushes Shadow up against the cage in a clinch. Garcia jumps into guard, dragging Shadow to the mat.
Shadow wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garcia is trying to keep Shadow in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shadow wanted to stand there but Garcia had control of the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garcia wants to stand and escape but Shadow is having none of it. Shadow wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving. Shadow wants to stand but Garcia is controlling his posture from full guard. Garcia has control of Shadow's left arm, preventing Shadow from doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Garcia working a defensive guard here.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Shadow doesn't succeed with the takedown and Garcia counters with a series of strikes. Shadow will be more careful next time no doubt. Garcia swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
so Shadow counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Shadow looks gassed! Garcia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Garcia is controlling Shadow's posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Danilo Garcia dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Garcia shoots in looking for a takedown. Shadow tries to sprawl out of it but Garcia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shadow manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The fight moves into the clinch position. Shadow is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Garcia gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Shadow keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Garcia's efforts to push away. Garcia tries to circle away but Shadow has him pinned against the cage. Garcia tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shadow is working for takedown but Garcia is calmly controlling the position for now. Shadow is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Shadow jumps guard but Garcia stands there with Shadow around his waist. Shadow gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Danilo Garcia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danilo Shadow. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shadow has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Garcia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Shadow misses with the head strike.

Shadow trying to control the position from guard on top but Garcia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Shadow won't allow Garcia to sweep him here. Shadow tries to stand but Garcia is controlling from the bottom. Shadow is breathing heavily. Garcia wriggles free and stands up. Shadow is looking to clinch but Garcia is avoiding it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shadow shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Garcia cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Shadow shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Garcia sprawls well. Garcia wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Shadow gets slowly back to his feet. Shadow shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Garcia closes the distance and lands a one-two. Garcia tries a head kick but it misses.
Shadow tries for a takedown but Garcia circles away easily and Shadow takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Garcia lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garcia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Garcia feints and as Shadow raises his hands in defense, Garcia changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Shadow is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shadow can do anything to dispel that myth. Shadow being controlled here, momentarily. Garcia gets to his feet. Shadow looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Shadow wants to clinch and Garcia counters with a series of strikes. Shadow will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shadow ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Shadow gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Garcia counters with a two punch combo. Garcia swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shadow tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Some wild striking there from Shadow.
Shadow avoids the body shot from Garcia.
Garcia lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shadow circles away quickly and effectively. Shadow throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Shadow throws a head kick but Garcia moves out of range.
Shadow slips a jab and a cross from Garcia.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Danilo Garcia dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Garcia swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Garcia tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shadow paws at him with a jab and circles away. Shadow decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. It looks like Shadow is going to stand back up.
Garcia is pressing down on Shadow's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Shadow drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Garcia dives on top into guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Shadow is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Shadow has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Garcia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Shadow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shadow is being controlled here. Shadow is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Garcia stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shadow shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Garcia pinned against the cage. Garcia gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Garcia misses with a takedown attempt - Shadow sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Garcia blocks the body kick.
Garcia shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Shadow is trying to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Garcia connects with a nice short shot to Shadow's temple. Garcia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shadow keeps working. Garcia is figuring out what he wants to do next. Shadow is trying to stand up here but Garcia is controlling him well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Shadow wants to control but Garcia is keeping busy.

Danilo Garcia is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Shadow takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shadow looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Garcia is fending him off so far but Shadow persists. Nope, Garcia circles away and we're back to standing. Danilo Shadow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Garcia throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shadow.
And that's the end of the fight! Danilo Garcia showed his dominance in that final round. Well Garcia has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
