Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Grimgoy Jager Dgak! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hyuga Neji! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jager Dgak will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Neji fails with the takedown and Jager Dgak counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Neji escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Neji misses with a takedown and Jager Dgak counters with a nice double leg into side control. Neji won't be happy with that. Jager Dgak controls the position from side control. Jager Dgak trying to control the action but Neji is working from the bottom. Jager Dgak tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neji is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Neji wants to control but Jager Dgak is keeping busy and won't allow it. Neji moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Neji looks gassed! Jager Dgak throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Neji works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Jager Dgak trying to control but Neji is working from the bottom. Jager Dgak is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Jager Dgak drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Neji dives on top into guard. Neji prevents Jager Dgak from getting back to his feet. Neji slips nicely into half guard. Jager Dgak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Neji on the ground. Jager Dgak trying to control here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Neji takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Neji working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Neji works his way into side control. Jager Dgak wants to control but Neji postures up. Jager Dgak tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Neji wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Neji decides to stand back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neji fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jager Dgak sprawls well initially but Neji persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Neji wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jager Dgak keeps working. Neji thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jager Dgak's head. Jager Dgak is looking to improve his position.
Neji trying to control the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Hyuga Neji will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Neji throws a lazy head kick and Jager Dgak counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Neji looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Jager Dgak is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Jager Dgak lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Jager Dgak uses his free foot to push down on Neji's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Neji. Neji is in all sorts of trouble here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jager Dgak takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Jager Dgak is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Neji can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Neji is looking to improve his position but Jager Dgak isn't that keen on the idea. Jager Dgak throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Neji because Jager Dgak loaded up on that one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Neji's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Neji gets back to half guard. Jager Dgak is controlling the pace.
Jager Dgak is looking to take a break and control but Neji is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Neji flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jager Dgak is working for a submission of some sort.
Jager Dgak is stalling here. Neji is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jager Dgak seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Neji has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Neji is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jager Dgak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Neji is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jager Dgak has escaped the position, nice work there. Neji is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jager Dgak knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Grimgoy Jager Dgak dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Neji closes the distance looking to clinch and Jager Dgak counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Neji! Jager Dgak lands a nice shot to the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jager Dgak controlling from the full mount. Jager Dgak breaks from Neji's wrist control and lands an elbow. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jager Dgak avoids the attempt from Neji to control. Jager Dgak scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Jager Dgak lands a big elbow. Jager Dgak jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Neji is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Neji and Jager Dgak has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Neji wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Jager Dgak working away. Neji is not content to let Jager Dgak control the position. Jager Dgak cracks Neji with an elbow. That is naaassty. Jager Dgak wants to take a breather but Neji manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Jager Dgak. Jager Dgak is fighting to break Neji's control of his arms but Neji is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Neji is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jager Dgak throws a strike but Neji rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Neji controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Neji is working Jager Dgak over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Neji pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jager Dgak is keeping the position for now. Jager Dgak is looking to sweep but instead, Neji has passed into half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Grimgoy Jager Dgak showed his dominance in that final round. I think Jager Dgak has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
