The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rush throws out a loose jab but Skripplenorth uses good head movement to avoid it. Skripplenorth tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rush sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Skripplenorth somewhat. Skripplenorth slips a straight right by Rush . Rush tries to clinch there but Skripplenorth circles away.

Skripplenorth closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rush to the mat! Rush manages to get full guard. Rush is looking to stand up but Skripplenorth isn't so interested in that idea. Skripplenorth drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Skripplenorth jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Skripplenorth slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Rush trying to remain calm as Skripplenorth controls from the top position. Rush tries to bench press Skripplenorth off him but Skripplenorth keeps the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Skripplenorth wants to control but Rush is keeping him busy. Skripplenorth is trying to get an arm triangle but Rush is defending well. Skripplenorth is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rush has escaped the position, nice work there. Rush is looking for a sweep. Rush wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Skripplenorth is trying to get an arm triangle but Rush is defending well. Skripplenorth is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rush knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Skripplenorth is looking to take a break and control but Rush is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Skripplenorth advances to full mount. Skripplenorth landing strikes from the mount. Rush is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Skripplenorth sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Skripplenorth scores with a couple of good head shots there.
You get the feeling that Rush really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Skripplenorth is going olschool here, as he tries to force Rush to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Rush shrugs it off. Rush 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Rush working to try and regain half guard.
Skripplenorth trying to control but Rush is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Skripplenorth is working for a guillotine from mount but Rush frees his head quite easily.
Skripplenorth is breathing heavily. Skripplenorth wants to control the pace but Rush is squirming around nicely. Skripplenorth is landing with some decent strikes but Rush is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Rush is trying to stand. Rush tries to reverse the position but Skripplenorth maintains control. Rush is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Skripplenorth with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Skripplenorth trying to control but Rush is having none of it. Rush is trying to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Skripplenorth wants to take Rush 's back but he can't do it this time. Rush is working to get back to half guard.

Rush is squirming around, avoiding Skripplenorth's attempts to control the action. Skripplenorth is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rush can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Skripplenorth with shots to the head and body - Rush looks very uncomfortable down there. Skripplenorth looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Skripplenorth has isolated one of Rush 's arms. Rush looking to fight him off but Skripplenorth twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
