Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenneth Townsend (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philip Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Townsend comes to the cage accompanied by Out of my Way by Seether. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Philip Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carwin clinches up against the cage.

Carwin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Townsend shoots in and drives through. Carwin sprawls well.
Kenneth Townsend seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carwin misses with a wild body shot.

Carwin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Townsend has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Carwin escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Carwin!
Townsend manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Townsend avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carwin.

Townsend is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Carwin pulls his head out easily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carwin in particular looking to stall.
Carwin prevents Townsend from improving his position.
Carwin is looking to advance position but Townsend won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carwin lands with a punch from half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Townsend wants to improve his position but Carwin is controlling well.
Townsend is breathing heavily.

Townsend actively working from the bottom here.
Carwin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Townsend with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Carwin is working for a submission of some sort.
Townsend is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carwin works his way into full mount!
Townsend can't escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carwin working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Carwin punching from mount but Townsend doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Carwin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Townsend is looking to escape.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Townsend bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Carwin wants to stand up but Townsend is controlling him.
Townsend trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Townsend drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carwin dives on top into guard.

Townsend working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carwin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carwin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Townsend looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Townsend working for a triangle but Carwin defends it easily.
Carwin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Townsend. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Townsend is looking for a triangle but Carwin pushes his legs off easily.
Townsend looking for a sweep. Not yet Townsend, not yet.
Carwin wants to stand but Townsend has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Townsend is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Carwin makes his way to full guard, as Townsend worked for a kimura.
Carwin can't keep his opponent in guard - Townsend advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Townsend works his way into full mount!

Townsend working for a submission but Carwin is keeping him at bay.
Townsend takes Carwin's back.

Townsend looking for the choke from the back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Townsend working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Townsend is persistently looking for the submission but Carwin is defending it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Townsend working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Carwin is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Townsend has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Carwin taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kenneth Townsend!
