PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Slim Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seth Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles shoots in for a takedown but Sanders shows good takedown defense.
Charles misses with a body shot.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sanders paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Charles tries to clinch but Sanders moves out of range.
Charles is breathing heavily.
Charles wants to clinch.
Sanders swings away with a body shot that misses
and Charles counters with a one-two to the body.
Sanders jabs Charles right on the nose. Charles blinks but takes it well.
Sanders scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Charles doesn't seem bothered though.
Sanders lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Slim Charles has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sanders.
Sanders wants to stand but Charles has his arm trapped.
Sanders taking a breather here.
Sanders tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Charles struggling a bit here.
Charles is looking to get back to his feet here but Sanders is keeping cool and he's managed to take Charles's back.
Sanders is riding his opponent, not letting Charles buck him off.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanders is looking to control Charles but Charles is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Sanders is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Sanders misses with an elbow to the head.
Sanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Charles. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sanders trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Seth Sanders just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Charles's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Charles duly obliges.
Charles tries to clinch there but Sanders circles away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sanders, right into the meat.
Sanders throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Sanders throws a combination that misses
and Charles counters with a series of strikes. Sanders will be more careful next time no doubt.
Charles ducks right into an uppercut from Sanders.
Charles avoids the head kick by Sanders.
Sanders throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sanders lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
A head kick misses from Sanders.
Sanders misses with a head kick.
Sanders with a hook.
Sanders lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Sanders looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Charles shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sanders but Sanders pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sanders throws a leg kick which misses Charles's front leg but catches the back leg as Charles tries to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charles on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Sanders has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sanders has Charles pressed against the cage, preventing Charles from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Sanders escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Seth Sanders seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Charles loads up on a big right hand but Sanders slips the punch.
Sanders's corner calls for a 1-2. Sanders obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Sanders throws a right hand that Charles ducks under and follows up with a left that Charles also avoids with ease.
Sanders throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Charles.
Sanders moves in looking to clinch but Charles pushes him off.
Sanders cracks Charles with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanders throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Sanders pushes Charles up against the cage in a clinch.
Sanders wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Charles has him pressed against the cage.
Sanders is trying to break the clinch but Charles has him pressed against the cage.

Sanders pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Slim Charles is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sanders scores with a nice strike.

Sanders throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Sanders scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Charles swats away the attempt to clinch by Sanders.
Sanders lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sanders.
Charles takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Sanders looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Charles misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sanders.

Sanders circles away from the clinch attempt
and Sanders counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Sanders darts in and clinches Charles up against the cage.
Sanders wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Charles has him pressed against the cage.
Charles prevents Sanders from breaking the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Sanders.
Sanders looking to slow down the pace here.
Charles is trying to break the clinch but Sanders has him pressed against the cage.
Charles gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sanders.
Sanders will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Charles up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Charles is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sanders pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Sanders trying to stall but Charles improves his position.
Charles jumps guard but Sanders stands there with Charles around his waist. Charles gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sanders lands a nice shot to the body.

Sanders clinches with his opponent.
Sanders wants to break free but Charles has control.
Sanders has Charles pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Charles manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sanders connects with a knee to the head.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sanders has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sanders dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Charles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sanders misses with a double jab.
Charles tries for a takedown but Sanders circles away easily
and Sanders counters with a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Seth Sanders showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Charles gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sanders counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Sanders tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Charles paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Slim Charles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sanders tries to land a knee to the head but Charles blocks with his arms.
Sanders looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Charles tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Sanders pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanders stalks Charles and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Charles's face. Charles staggers backwards, shaken.
Sanders swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sanders lands a slapping body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Charles takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Sanders will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sanders wants to break free but Charles has control.
Charles fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slim Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanders has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Charles misses with the body kick
and Sanders connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A slapping leg kick lands for Sanders.
Charles takes a shot right to the bread basket.
A head kick from Sanders lands but Charles takes it in his stride.
Sanders misses with a series of wild punches.

Charles gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Charles wants to stand up but Sanders is controlling him.
Sanders trying to control but Charles is working from the bottom.
Charles wants to control the position but Sanders says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Charles tries to roll over but Sanders keeps him under control.
Sanders trying to control the action but Charles is working from the bottom.
Sanders is thwarting Charles's attempts to control the position.
Well, if Sanders is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Charles misses with a two punch combination.
Seth Sanders is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sanders throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Sanders throws a right and a left that Charles avoids nicely.
Sanders tries to bum rush Charles with a series of wild strikes but Charles uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sanders throws a head kick but Charles moves out of range.
Sanders fails to land with a series of punches.
Sanders rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Charles moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Charles walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Sanders rushes Charles and presses him up against the cage.
Charles wants to stall.
Slim Charles has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
With the fighters up against the cage, Charles throws an elbow but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Seth Sanders comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sanders has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
