Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between PJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Campbell has chosen Day-n-Nite! as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, PJ Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Campbell! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Campbell doesn't manage to clinch there - Penn circles away.
Penn tries to clinch but Campbell is having none of it. Campbell tries to clinch but fails miserably and Penn counters with a one-two to the body. Campbell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt - Campbell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Penn misses with a straight left. Campbell on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Campbell moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Campbell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Penn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Campbell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Campbell advances position into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn tries to buck Campbell off but Campbell is having none of it. Campbell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penn keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Penn clinches but Campbell breaks the clinch and Campbell holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Campbell stalling in the clinch but Penn improves position. A short left from Penn. A left hand lands to the body for Penn.
Penn has Campbell pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Campbell manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Campbell managing to block the knees to the body from Penn.
Campbell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Campbell is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Penn just leaning against Campbell, taking a breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Penn looking to slow down the pace here. Campbell stalls. The is referee keeping an eye on Penn - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Penn lands a left hand.
Penn fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for PJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Campbell controlling the action here for a moment.
Campbell continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up. Campbell wants to get back to striking at distance but Penn won't allow it.
Penn is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Penn has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Campbell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. A short left from Penn. Penn has picked Campbell up - he's going for a ride! Penn dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Campbell on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Penn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Penn is breathing heavily. Penn tries to pass the half guard into mount. Campbell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Campbell wants to control but Penn is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Campbell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Campbell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Campbell. Campbell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Penn is one step ahead there. Penn wants to stand but Campbell is controlling his posture from full guard. Penn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Campbell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Penn clobbers Campbell with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Penn has taken the fight to the clinch.
Campbell wants to stall.
Penn breaks the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Penn rushes Campbell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Campbell avoids the elbow strike from Penn, against the cage.
Campbell looking for a takedown. Penn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A punch combination from Penn misses. Penn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Penn throws a series of punches but Campbell avoids them all with ease. Campbell moves out of range as Penn throws a body kick.
A punch combination from Penn misses. Campbell moves away from the strike by Penn. Campbell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Campbell is looking to take a break and control but Penn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Campbell moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that PJ Penn will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Campbell tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Penn counters by clinching up. Penn stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Campbell is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Campbell jumps guard but Penn stands there with Campbell around his waist. Campbell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Penn is working for takedown but Campbell is calmly controlling the position for now. Campbell goes for a takedown attempt but Penn pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Campbell tries to clinch but Penn is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Campbell stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet. Penn closes the distance looking to clinch and Campbell counters with a body kick that stops Penn in his tracks momentarily. Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Campbell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn misses with the body kick and Campbell counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Campbell. Penn stalling in the clinch.
Campbell is trying to trip Penn. He has hold of a leg but Penn is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Campbell persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Campbell trying to control the position from guard on top but Penn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Campbell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Campbell preventing the sweep. Campbell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Penn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Campbell cracks Penn with a solid left hand. Campbell sitting in guard here, content to control. Campbell works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Campbell trying to control the pace. Campbell stops Penn from getting back to his feet.
Campbell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Penn is looking to control Campbell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Penn avoid being mounted? Campbell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Penn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Campbell wants to pass the guard but Penn is defending well. Penn tries to get to full guard but Campbell has control of the leg. Penn has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Campbell. Oh but Penn has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Campbell goes limp - he's gone! Penn jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
