Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Penwarden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Happy Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Happy Pete is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rick Penwarden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Happy Pete! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penwarden fails with a takedown attempt. Pete closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Penwarden to the mat! Penwarden manages to get full guard. Pete is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Pete postures up in Penwarden's guard and throws a big left but Penwarden blocks it. Pete has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Pete trying to control but Penwarden is working from the bottom. Penwarden has momentary wrist control but Pete slips an elbow through the middle. Pete missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Penwarden is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Pete in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pete stands up over Penwarden, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Penwarden has momentary wrist control but Pete slips an elbow through the middle. Pete missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Penwarden working for a triangle but Pete defends it easily.
Penwarden is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penwarden tries to land a sweep but no joy. Pete missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Pete distracts Penwarden with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Penwarden tries to get out of the position. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pete can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Penwarden is breathing heavily. Pete is in close to Penwarden's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Pete scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Pete working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pete trying to control the position from guard on top but Penwarden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pete landing with the ground and pound. Pete makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Penwarden working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pete. Penwarden looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pete cracks Penwarden with a solid left hand. Pete lands a couple of digs. Pete is in close to Penwarden's body, working some short punches and elbows. Penwarden keeping moving, preventing Pete from controlling successfully.

Pete wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penwarden keeps working. Pete scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Penwarden to see if he's OK. Penwarden tries to buck Pete off but Pete is having none of it. Pete lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Pete scoring with punches from side control. Pete is looking to take a break and control but Penwarden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pete creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pete lands a few punches from side control. Pete connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Penwarden some visible discomfort.
Penwarden wants to get back to his feet but Pete drags him back down. Penwarden tries to improve position but can't. Pete working away. Pete in side control lands a decent elbow. Pete lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Penwarden down.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Pete has his takedown stuffed and Penwarden counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Pete trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Penwarden manages to pass to mount!
Penwarden prevents Pete from getting the reversal. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Happy Pete dominated that round. That's time! Penwarden's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Pete shoots and misses and Penwarden counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Pete works his way to full guard. Good work. Pete throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Pete has a closed guard, preventing Penwarden from standing up. Pete is looking for a triangle but Penwarden pushes his legs off easily.

Penwarden has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Pete thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Penwarden won't allow Pete to sweep him here. Penwarden looking to pass the guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Penwarden, as that shot connected.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pete tries for a takedown but Penwarden circles away easily and Penwarden counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pete!
That's one minute gone in the round. Penwarden looking to secure an arm triangle but Pete defends it well. Penwarden controlling the pace for now. Pete holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Penwarden tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Pete wants to control but Penwarden is having none of it. Penwarden tries to control but Pete wriggling away. Penwarden get's back to his feet. Penwarden misses with a takedown and Pete counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Penwarden gets back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pete's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Pete makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Pete trying to control but Penwarden is working from the bottom. Penwarden looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pete is one step ahead there. Penwarden lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pete! Penwarden landing strikes, looking to finish! Penwarden is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pete can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Penwarden is working for a guillotine from mount but Pete frees his head quite easily.
Pete swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Penwarden thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Pete tries to lock up and control but Penwarden gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Penwarden punishing his opponent with strikes. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Penwarden looking to finish Pete with some ground and pound. This is bad for Pete! Pete manages to regain half guard. Good work. Happy Pete has got the better of the ground game so far. Pete is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rick Penwarden dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Penwarden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Penwarden prevents Pete from getting the reversal. Pete tries to hold on but Penwarden postures up. Penwarden controlling the pace for now. Pete swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Pete keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pete tries to lock up and control but Penwarden gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pete working to try and regain half guard.
Pete is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Penwarden is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Penwarden wants to clinch but Pete slips to the side and Pete counters with a single leg into guard. Penwarden didn't expect that. Pete content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pete keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Penwarden's head. Penwarden wants to stand and escape but Pete is having none of it. Pete is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Penwarden not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pete works over Penwarden with some ground and pound from guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pete accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pete trying to control the position from guard on top but Penwarden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Penwarden shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Penwarden was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Pete tries to lock up and control but Penwarden gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Pete is looking to get to half guard. Penwarden tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Penwarden lands a big shot there that rocks Pete but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Pete is looking to improve his position but Penwarden isn't that keen on the idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penwarden is working for a guillotine from mount but Pete frees his head quite easily.

Pete throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Pete is desperately trying to improve his position but Penwarden has a good base and remains in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Penwarden looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Penwarden can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pete is looking to escape. Pete sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Pete blocking the ground and pound attempt from Penwarden. Pete misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Penwarden takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Pete throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Ground and pound from Penwarden. Pete is looking to control Penwarden's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pete avoid being mounted?
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rick Penwarden. I think Penwarden has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
