Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Albert Ashton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marshall Arts! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ashton misses with a kick to the body.
Ashton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ashton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Arts tries to hold on but Ashton pushes him away. Ashton has hold of Arts's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Arts manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Arts can't escape the position.
Ashton looking for a guillotine from mount but Arts is having none of it. Arts is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ashton is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Arts has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Arts! Arts looking to pass the guard. Ashton looking for a guillotine here but Arts defends easily.
Arts wanted to stand there but Ashton had control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arts trying to control the position from guard on top but Ashton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ashton had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Arts is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ashton Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Arts's back instead. Arts covering up well under a series of strikes from Ashton. Arts can't escape the position.
Ashton struggling to land strikes to the head as Arts covers up. Arts trying to control the hands but Ashton breaks the grip. Arts is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ashton off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. You can see the frustration on Arts's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Ashton misses with an elbow to the head. Ashton avoiding Arts 's attempts to control his hands. Ashton looking for the choke from the back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Arts is trying to stand back up. Ashton is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Arts has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Ashton is breathing heavily. Arts wants to control his opponent's hands but Ashton gets his hands free. Ashton is working for a rear naked choke. Arts is not defending it well and Ashton has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Arts refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Arts's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
