Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ji Kwon Tae! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brick Layer! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tae scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Layer is looking for a sweep. Tae stands up. Layer tries for a takedown but Tae circles away easily and Tae counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Layer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Tae counters with a three punch combo that has Layer backing up. Layer nods at Tae to acknowledge the strikes. Tae throws a head kick that misses. Layer misses with a combination
and Tae counters by clinching up. Tae pulls Layer into guard.
Tae not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Layer content to stall in guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Layer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tae's guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Tae manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Tae keeping moving, preventing Layer from controlling successfully. Layer tries to free his leg and advance position but Tae is retaining full guard. Tae has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Tae is wriggling around but Layer manages to pass to half guard.
Layer is trying to control the action in half guard but Tae is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Layer trying to control the pace. Layer is trying to control. Tae wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tae is positioning himself well to prevent Layer advancing to mount. Layer passes to side control. Layer wants to control but Tae is keeping him busy. Layer decides to stand back up. Layer steps back and let's Tae get back to his feet. Layer is looking to clinch but Tae is avoiding it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Layer clinches but Tae breaks the clinch and Tae counters with a nice double leg into side control. Layer won't be happy with that. Layer throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Tae controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Layer tries to improve position but can't. Tae decides to stand back up. Layer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Tae counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Layer! Ji Kwon Tae has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Layer. Layer looks gassed! Tae is standing up, even though he is in mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ji Kwon Tae dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Tae shoots in and bounces Layer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Layer looking for a sweep. Not yet Layer, not yet. Tae pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Layer is keeping the position for now. Layer is working an open guard so Tae takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Layer fails with the takedown letting Tae counter with a right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Layer tries to clinch and Tae counters with a one-two to the body. Tae throws a head kick that half lands.
Layer is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tae's half guard. Layer is breathing heavily. Tae wants to get back to his feet. Tae tries to roll over but Layer keeps him under control. Tae trying to hold on to Layer's head to control him but Layer postures up.
Tae is trying to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tae wants to get back to full guard. Tae is staying active underneath Layer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Layer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Tae moves into the clinch. Layer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ji Kwon Tae has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Layer. Layer looking to slow down the pace here. Tae goes for a takedown in the clinch but Layer prevents it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Layer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Layer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Layer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Tae is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Layer throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Tae is looking to improve his position but Layer isn't that keen on the idea. Layer wants to control the pace but Tae is squirming around nicely. Tae throwing hammer fists to the chest of Layer. What's that going to do exactly?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Layer tries to control but Tae wriggling away. Tae slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Tae is looking to control Layer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tae avoid being mounted? Tae pushes Layer off and gets back to his feet. Tae throws a head kick that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tae throws a head kick that misses. A punch combination from Tae misses. Layer has his takedown stuffed and Tae counters with a left and a right that stings Layer. Tae closes the distance and clinches. Tae stops a takedown attempt from Layer.
Tae breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Layer with a poor takedown enabling Tae to counter with a crisp jab. Ji Kwon Tae has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Layer. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tae will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Layer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Tae counters with a straight right hand. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Tae - that will leave a mark!
Layer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tae throws a front kick that sends Layer stumbling back into the cage. Tae fails with a takedown attempt. Tae throws a right and a left that Layer avoids nicely. Tae closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Tae is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Tae decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Layer closes the distance but Tae moves to the side and Tae holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Layer tries to pull guard but Tae holds him up against the cage and eventually Layer drops back down to his feet.
Tae is looking to break free of the clinch but Layer has double underhooks. Layer misses with a short punch on the inside. Tae keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Layer's efforts to push away. Tae changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Layer fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Tae lands with a nice body punch. Tae throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Layer makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Tae misses with a takedown and Layer counters with a nice double leg into guard. Tae is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Tae breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Left hook, right uppercut from Tae. Tae tries to close the distance and clinch but Layer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Tae moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Tae tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Layer swivels and escapes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tae tries to clinch up. Tae misses with a two punch combination.
Layer misses with a double jab
and Tae counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Layer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Tae counters with a one-two to the body. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Layer takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tae, as that shot connected.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Layer misses with a takedown and Tae counters with a single leg into guard. Layer didn't expect that. Brick Layer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ji Kwon Tae is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Tae stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Layer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Ji Kwon Tae showed his dominance in that final round. Well Tae has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
