PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nino Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maik Pellicciai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes into the arena with Victory blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nino Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maik Pellicciai! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Pellicciai does no damage. Brown shoots in looking for a takedown. Pellicciai tries to sprawl out of it but Brown keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pellicciai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Brown throws a sloppy head kick and Pellicciai moves out of range easily. Pellicciai misses with a jab, cross combination.
Brown tries to clinch but Pellicciai is having none of it. Pellicciai doesn't succeed with the takedown and Brown counters with a single leg into guard. Pellicciai didn't expect that. Pellicciai keeping full guard, as Brown tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Brown preventing the sweep. Pellicciai looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pellicciai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Brown wants to control from the top but Pellicciai keeps moving. Pellicciai looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pellicciai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Brown has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Pellicciai throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Brown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pellicciai on the ground. Brown trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pellicciai's guard. Pellicciai working for a triangle but Brown defends it easily.
Pellicciai isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Brown stacks Pellicciai on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Brown! Pellicciai looks gassed! Brown slows the pace down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pellicciai manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Brown keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Pellicciai is trying to control. Brown wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Pellicciai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily. Brown wants to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pellicciai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brown is just riding it out for now. Pellicciai eventually gives up the hold. Pellicciai misses with a head shot. Brown uses the momentum to regain guard. Brown seems keen to control Pellicciai's posture. Pellicciai tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard. Pellicciai wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving. Brown preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Brown controls Pellicciai momentarily but Pellicciai frees himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pellicciai drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pellicciai jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Brown has control of Pellicciai's left arm, preventing Pellicciai from doing any damage. Pellicciai thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Brown shoots in and bounces Pellicciai off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Pellicciai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brown is one step ahead there. Brown sitting in guard, not really doing much. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Nino Brown will probably get the nod. That's time! Brown's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Pellicciai throws a combination that misses and Brown counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pellicciai has his feet on Brown's thighs here. He's pushed Brown off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Brown screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
