Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony McCowan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Nash will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCowan drives through and clinches with Nash against the cage.
Nash wants to get back to striking at distance but McCowan won't allow it.

McCowan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nash regains guard immediately.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCowan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nash for as long as he can get away with.

Nash isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. McCowan stacks Nash on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by McCowan!
McCowan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nash keeps working.

McCowan is really struggling to control Nash but he's trying to hold on to the position.

McCowan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nash has escaped the position, nice work there.

McCowan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McCowan wants to control but Nash is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McCowan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

McCowan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nash is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

McCowan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nash, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nash really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCowan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nash is looking to regain half guard here but McCowan keeps moving and retains side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fighters circling - Nash throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nash jabbing away but nothing is landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony McCowan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nash cracks McCowan with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Nash's corner calls for a 1-2. Nash obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
McCowan tries to move into range but Nash moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McCowan gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Nash.
McCowan ducks straight into an uppercut from Nash and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - McCowan maanges to regain guard straight away.

McCowan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Oh McCowan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

McCowan working for a triangle but Nash defends it easily.
McCowan seems to have got his legs back now.
Nash wants to stand but McCowan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nash is looking to advance position but McCowan won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McCowan is trying to get back to full guard.

McCowan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nash is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Nash seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice defenses there by McCowan.
Nash lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Nash.

McCowan moves forwards but Nash connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Nash defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McCowan.
Nash lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


Tony McCowan's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nash walks forward and throws a big overhand right! McCowan drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Nash swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from McCowan's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Nash!
